Silhouettes and lens flare

BY VIOLET, DAISY, AND MICAH

Silhouettes: a view of an object or a scene consisting of the outline and a featureless interior, with the silhouetted object usually being black.

Example picture from Shannon Joy:

Silhouettes:

1) Make sure your back ground is brighter than your subject.

2) Choose a subject with distinct lines and shape.

3) Get low for the subject to be darker.

4) Close down your ISO 100-200 and Aperture around f/8.

5) Focus on your subject.

6) Take the picture when you’re ready!

Lens flare: the light scattered in lens systems through generally unwanted image formation mechanisms, such as internal reflection and scattering from material in the lens.

Example from Zach and Jody

Lens flare:

1) Position your subject with his/her back facing the sun.

2) Place your subject in front of the sun so you can get more flare.

3) To prevent harsh washout of your subject, shoot on manual. ISO to the lowest.

4) Focus on your subject until you get lens flare.

5) Be creative and have fun!
