1. HISTORY

- One of the oldest churches in Slovakia

- Primary church came from 1230

- was rebuilding in the half of the 14th century

- was burned out five times (the biggest fire was in 1788)

- 1823 closed down cemetery around the church

- 9. august 2008 promoted on Concathedral

- Concathedral is 54 meters long, 34 meters wide, 16 meters high

- The tower is 71 meters high

- Five altars and two organs

- Big organ - 3,480 fluepipes - 20 bells

- Small organ - older than big organ - 378 fluepipes - the biggest fluepipes has painted decoration

4. MAIN ALTAR

- was made in 1490-1506 by Prešov’s wood-carver Ján Weiss

- in the middle is Virgin Mary with Jesus

- On the right side is a sculpture of St. Nicholas

- on the left side is a sculpture of St. Vojtech, second Prague’s bishop

STATUE OF POPE JOHN PAUL II

- the statue is bronze- was installed in July

2012 - 2,5 m hight- was created by

sculptor Peter Beno

SAINT NICHOLAS

- was born in 280 AD- in a city of Lycia (in

Asia Minor)- gift giver of Myra- was a Christian

priest, who later became a bishop

- was a rich person and traveled the country to help people or give gifts

SAINT NICHOLAS

- story is about a poor man and his three daughters

- St. Nicholas dropped bags of gold into the stockings
