What a wonderful Book Week Parade we celebrated last week. It was such a lovely atmosphere and a really nice feeling to see how happy our students and families were, and how our community engaged in the love of literature during the day. Well done to Mrs Barwick and her team of library monitors, who opened the parade in style with their “Do Not Open This Book” skit. There are some wonderful photos doing the rounds on our Facebook page, and more throughout this newsletter. Enjoy!
Well done, Ms Rose I would like to send out a big congratulations to Ms Sarah Rose, Deputy Principal, for achieving the honour of being recognised as an outstanding teacher of Mathematics, by a panel of judges through the Australian Mathematics & Science Institute. Ms Rose was nominated by several of our teachers and will be receiving her award next Friday, in a presentation in Melbourne. Big thumbs up!
Canberra Excursion Year 6 students and teachers, as well as some of our parents, have been enjoying a very memorable excursion in Canberra this week. Mari, our school mascot, has also been enjoying the sites with our students. One of the most heart-warming stories I’ve heard so far was from one of our students who approached a war veteran at the war memorial, and thanked him for his service to our country. Wow! They are visiting the snowfields today, so that should be a memorable experience.

Bryan Kirkland Cup results Students participated in the Bryan Kirkland Cup on Tuesday, 28th August, Our team played well, winning 3 of their 4 games, just missing out on the final. The boys behaviour was great and they represented our school well. Thank you to Steve for all his efforts this year. K-2 Athletics Carnival I am super-excited about our K-2 Athletics Carnival being held next Wednesday, from 9:45am. I imagine most of our
students are really excited about this as well. Students will rotate in their class groups around a series of activities
throughout the carnival, and will also participate in age races on the back field. Students will be able to wear their
house colours on the day. The carnival will start at 9:45am and run until lunchtime, around 1pm. The canteen will be
open all day just for parents. Students can buy at the normal recess and lunchtimes. The canteen will be located in its
normal place.
Colour Explosion Our P&C Colour Explosion fundraiser is going to be held on Friday, 28th September, which is our last
day of school for Term 3. From 2pm, students will make their way around the back oval, completing
laps, while being sprayed with coloured powder and enjoying themselves immensely, I imagine. A
barbeque lunch will be available for students and families, courtesy of the Breakfast Club, during the
lunchtime break, prior to the explosion event. Check out the countdown and running fundraising total
so far.
Stage 2 (Year 3 and 4) Excursions Our Year 3 students and teachers will be travelling to Taronga Zoo next Thursday, 6th September Students will be leav-
ing school at 6:30am and returning by 5:30pm. This should be a wonderful experience for our students. Year 4 are
heading off for their overnight excursion to Sydney, on Thursday, 13th September, visiting the Zoo and the Eye Tower.
During the 2 day excursion, the students and teachers will be visiting the Aquarium and the Powerhouse Museum.
Kinder Café info The school will be hosting a Kinder Café on Wednesday, 12th September, in the school hall, from 2PM. Parents of students who are enrolling for Kindergarten in 2019, will be able to meet with and discuss all of the systems and services that the school and wider community provide for our students.
Regional Athletics Several of our students will be attending the Regional Athletics Carnival, at Glendale Athletics Centre, on Friday, 31st August. We wish them all the best.
Staff Movement Welcome back to Mrs Stafford, from her Australian holiday tour, and thank you to Mrs Huntley for her wonderful teaching in 3S, during Mrs Stafford’s absence. I will be out of the school this Friday and next Monday. On Monday, I am sitting on a panel for a Principal position on the Central Coast, one of the may extra responsibilities of a principal in our current education environment. Singleton Council Garden Blitz Our Garden Blitz will likely be held on 20th September. This involves the use of recycled
organics and plastics to refurbish a garden area on the school grounds. The area near the
water tank at the back of the school will be converted to a sensory garden, with Singleton
Council providing a recycled plastic seating area, sensory and native plants, new soil and
compost and a garden pathway. We are asking for your hands-on support on this day to
help out with the development of this area through your labour and time during the day.
Please let the office know if you are available on this day and we will contact you with a
time and more details as the event approaches.

PACER: Year 6 Students from our school are currently participating in an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, cul-ture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Gov-ernment is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. We have factored this rebate in to our costings of the excursion and the price was adjusted accordingly. The rebate will be paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

As a team we achieved a very organised and smooth run-

happy teachers.
A massive thank you to everyone that helped out leading
up to and on the day.

Pizza Day went well, with lots of children and families enjoying lunch following the book week parade. It is always good to have something different thrown into the mix, just to keep us on our toes. We have a few projects coming up before we lock our doors for the last time this year. We will keep you up to date with these as time goes by. Our Winter and Summer menu is under review to see if it fits the Healthy Canteen Strategy. Potato topped pies are now off the menu as is pasta bake and porcupines. None of these food items were hugely popu-lar so we are now going to concentrate on the ones that are popular. Anyone who has any questions please contact the canteen. Thank you to everyone who helped this week, we really appreciate your help.

Dear Parent/Guardian RE: School Run4 Fun Colour Explosion – Parent Consent Thank you to date for your support with the School Run4FunColour Explosion. We are well and truly on our way to reach our fundraising goal. The event is only weeks away which is very exciting. It is our responsibility to seek permission for your child to participate in the School Run4Fun Colour Explosion. All measures have been taken to
ensure that this event is safe for all students.
There will be various colour powder stations throughout the course with two designated lanes – one for colour powder, the other with no powder. Your child can still participate in the event should you not wish for them to be sprayed with colour powder. The staff and P&C representatives will do their best to throw the powder at the torso, however wind and other factors can cause the powder to protrude on the face. Each child will receive a pack on the day, which includes a wristband, headband and a pair of sunglasses. The colour powder used in the event is non-toxic, biodegradable and environmentally friendly consisting of 98% corn starch and 2% food colouring. It will likely washout of your child’s clothing, however we recommend that your child wears mufti - old clothes and brings an oversized plain white shirt that you don’t mind being coloured. That’s what the event is all about! Based on the toxicology profiles of the powders used, their concentrations in the formulation and the mode of use, the colour powder is consid-ered safe for use. Students with lung issues such as asthma are advised to be careful in their decision to participate. Should you wish to view the ingredient listings and toxicology risk assessment of the powder, please see the staff in the Administration Office. Get ready for a BLAST OF COLOUR, and thanks in advance for your support! Happy fundraising!
