Sitka Tribal Tannery “Achieving full utilization of seal”
Year 1 -Sitka Tribe of Alaska began promoting and soliciting seal hides from across the Alaska Region. In August Sitka Tribal Tannery purchased the seal shaving machine that arrived in late November, this equipment will assist in achieving our goal of full utilization of seal.
Year 2 -Sitka Tribal Tannery will complete the equipment purchases to include a industrial skin flesher and wet drum. With the equipment the is expected to process 187 seal hides that will be obtained from villages through out the Alaska Region. Full production is expected to begin in March 2011
