• Over 50% of EGS students applying for University have places with institutions in the Times Education Top 100 and many with Russell Group, including Medicine at Imperial, Loughborough Warwick, Queen Mary, Engineering at UCL, Exeter and Kings College London

Beginning your journey into Sixth Form

• First impressions count

• Work hard, be on time

• Set the standard to lower school students

• Enjoy lessons

• Ask questions to make sure we are right for you and you are on the right courses.

• No phones unless in Sixth Form House or Common Room

School Day

• Tutor time is 8.25-8.40am for all Year 12 everyday.

• Students allowed out at break and lunch (12.05)

• Students to remain on site at all other times.

• Must wear Sixth Form ID at all times

• Free to go home at from lunch time if no last lesson and no other commitments.

• Sign in and out at the sixth form entrance

• Assembly for Year 12 is Friday at 8.25am.

Probation Period

• Part of conditional offer

• To ensure students are in right courses

• Reviewed at week 2 and 4 and 6.

• Offer can be withdrawn

• Linked to a range of targets, including attendance, summer task and work

Attendance

• 96% is the minimum expected.

• 10% statistically is a whole grade.

• 10% over a year is a whole month off.

• This does and will effect final outcome.

• Single biggest difference that you can help with.

• Dentist, driving lessons should not be during lesson times.

• League tables

• All students to sign a LEARNING AGREEMENT regarding hours and subjects selected.

Private Study

• All sixth formers will have allocated supervised Supervised Study sessions on their timetable.

• The key to students academic success lies in efficient use of their free time.

• Boys should be using this time to complete homework, independent study (additional reading), organisation of subject folders and preparation for assessments.

Enrichment opportunities /General

• Information in assembly and Google Classroom

• Progression Hour session! What are they?

• Timetable will have : lessons/Progression Hour/Recreation PE/Supervised study .

• Typical week!

UK University & Apprenticeship Search event, on Friday 28th of September, at the Emirates

Stadium.

Please ensure that you follow the registration link on google classroom.

All students must be registered for the event to allow entry.

You will have the opportunity to speak to a multitude of universities including, University of Oxford, Russell Group, red brick and modern institutions. A wide variety of the UK's best apprenticeship providers, HE colleges, specialist institutions, and student-related organisations will also attend.

• Year 12 students have progression meeting July 2019.

• Progression to Year 13….not guaranteed.

Where do student targets come from?

• National benchmarking is used to generate student targets.

• Targets are aspirational – they are set against the top 25% in the country, based on prior performance.

• HOWEVER, they remain MINIMUM target grades!!

• Targets shared with students in first two weeks

University?

• We will encourage all to apply

• Progression hours and opportunities and week will not just focus on University

• Costs/course/job prospects: big decision

• All should have the chance to go if they think it is right route

• Debt!

• Finance speaker will come and support

• Post AS exams: Progression Week.

How to help? Marginal Gains

• Ask and look

• Get them in everyday, on time, correct equipment, organisation.

• Attend all meetings/parent events

• Keep us informed and ask if you have concerns

• Encourage students to make appointments with HE/Careers (parents welcome)

• Know about the process of UCAS and be familiar with the website www.ucas.co.uk and apprenticeship websites.

• Be aware of the courses being taken

• Keep folders organised!

• Encourage independent study – space at home.

• Encourage use of our study space after school.

• Balance work/social/part time job

16-19 Bursaries

• You will need their own bank account.

• Application forms will be available in two weeks.

• Dependent on family income – different levels of support.

• Payments to bank account of student.

• 96% required each week for payment to be made.

• If eligible we will back pay from September for weeks when payment due.

• Payments will be made every half term.

• Amount per student will depend on the number eligible.
