Presenter
Presentation Notes
In 2016, 89 of 2,433 pedestrian accidents in Washington State were fatal. There were 1,874 that involved a suspected injury, and of those, 362 were serious injuries. In Washington State, 60 percent of collisions are located on city streets, where people are expected to travel on foot.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
NHTSA plans to initiate mandatory installation of DSRC/V2V communication-enabling devices in new cars at factories in the immediate future. The beginning of the “phase-in period” is slated for 2019 and such technologies are to be mandatory in all new cars produced as of 2021 (USDOT, N.D.).
