What do we do in Social Work classes?

We do community service events like Rally the Vote,

Book drives,

Toy drives,

Coat drives,

Collect donations for children and families,

And, of course, LEARN!

Social Work students have dynamic, interactive classes through role playing and group projects.

• “Let’s write a grant that will educate high school students about heroin

use.”

Social Work students develop strong relationships for the future

Through social activities… and celebrating life experiences.

You can take all the general education and pre-requisite classes

at Corbin or transfer in General Education Certified from a

community college.

The Social Work Program is dedicated to the 2+2 program at Corbin.

This means that if you have your General Education requirements completed and our pre-requisite classes completed when you transfer to Corbin EKU, your cohort will be able to graduate in TWO years.

What are the Social Work Pre-Requisites?

• Student must have a C or better in the following courses:

• English 101• English 102• Psychology 200

• Political Science 101• Sociology 131

• Students must also have a GPA of 2.50 or better to enter the program.

Social Work students practice skills in community agencies.

• Student social workers have two field placements. SWK 390, (Junior placement) and SWK 490, (Senior placement).

• These placements are in two different agencies so students have an opportunity to experience different client populations.

• By the end of the two placements, students will have completed almost 500 hours of internships!

• One day a week in the agency all semester and in class on a different day

• Total of 112 hours

• Must attend orientation semester prior to field

SWK 490• Four days a week in the

agency all semester and in class on a different day

• Total of 384 hours

• Must attend orientation semester prior to field

• Capstone paper

**Placements are within a 60 mile radius of Corbin campus.

required admissions packet.
