3D Interconnect Driving philosophy:

Seamlessly use 3D content in any format in SOLIDWORKS as if it was created in SOLIDWORKS.

Ground Principle: SOLIDWORKS cannot modify the native data and save it back in its native form.

3D Interconnect: Two Main Workflows

Use Content

Complete your Design Drive your Design

Migration Evolve a Design Convert your Design

1. Use Content Workflow

• Software Capability

• Use 3D supplier content directly in SOLIDWORKS designs.

• Create design references around other CAD models.

• Seamlessly update from other CAD content if the other

content is modified.

• Key Values

• Direct reference to other CAD data minimizes data

duplication and management hassles.

• Update capabilities minimizes the impact of change in

SOLIDWORKS.

• Use SOLIDWORKS capabilities on other data.

• Coexistence with Other CAD system and Data

2. Migration Workflow

• Software Capability • Use other CAD data as start part or assembly to start ECO

process.

• Break link with other CAD at document or feature level to control the level on reuse.

• Stop using dumb geometry, and instead use native format without breaking any references.

• Key Values • Allows Slow Migration based on need.

• Migrate legacy files to SOLIDWORKS on need basis.

• Preserve the work done on the legacy content through out the slow migration process.

• Allow Slow Migration from Other CAD to SOLIDWORKS

Let’s take a look

3D Interconnect

Direct Link • Part and Assemblies directly refer to the Original CAD content.

• File update is allowed.

• File to File reference created in SW, hence no SW File reference is created.

• No Edits to other CAD data is allowed in SOLIDWORKS.

Derived Link

• Other CAD representation is stored in SOLIDWORKS files.

• File to Feature reference is created in SOLIDWORKS.

• SOLIDWORKS operations on the other CAD content is allowed for modification.

• Modification is stored at SW file level. Original other CAD file is untouched.

• In Case of update, all downstream SOLIDWORKS features will be retained.

Broken Link • Reference to other CAD file is broken.

• Legacy SW behavior with No Updates applies.

• Link Status
