a collection of E-Pages, hosted on a web server and can be accessed through a domain

it is identified and located with its Domain Name (also known as URL i.e. Universal Resource Locater)

may consist of images, videos, contents and other forms of digital assets

HTML is the basic tool, which has been used to write websites

makes a web page readable by browsers and also facilitates its uploading on internet browsers.

The touch of programmers, in order to bring a website into existence, is considered imperative. However, a website to be effective and appealing needs the joint efforts of programmers, designers, content writers, search engine optimizers etc. Apart from this, there are certain logical aspects as well which determine the effectiveness of a website

As soon as a user opens web browser, he/she enters a URL in the opened browser's Address Bar and the desired web page appears on the screen, taking certain time. Hence, accessibility of a website becomes very crucial here because its loading time influences a user's interest to browse more related web pages.

A website's appeal is majorly dependent on its layout. Well positioning of the headers, links, images, videos, content etc. keeps a visitor's interest alive. So, the layout of website must be enriched with attractive graphics, moderate images, clear headers etc.

As websites are collection of E-pages, each and every page should be interwoven with the linking. Accurate interlinking of E-pages increases navigational values of website and facilitate a visitor to move to the desired pages freely. Navigation among E-pages affects the overall effectiveness of websites.

In a website, content is a part which provides relevant information to the desired purpose of a user. More the informative value of content; more will be the chances of visitors to come back on the same website. Hence, a good content always adds to a website's effectiveness.

Web site designing is quite simple -

WHY?!

because it follows WYSIWYG

or What You See is What You Get

If you've been using computers for some years, pre-LCD era, you're probably aware of the famous 800x600 screen resolution. Once upon a time, this screen size was very popular with web designers. Special care was taken when creating web sites so that they displayed perfectly on monitors using this screen resolution - the web page was 780x120 pixels (the 20 pixels were reserved for the web browser scroll bar).

A light background color (preferably white, very light shade of gray or pale yellow) is ideal when the text is in a dark color (black).

You can also use the reverse color scheme - a dark background color with a light color for text there’s a need to pay close attention to your web site content because it shall determine what color scheme you should use.

Here are font-families that should provide adequate cross-browser compatibility.

The Sans-serif familyArial, Verdana, Geneva, Helvetica, sans-serif

The Monospace familyCourier New, Courier, monospace

The Serif familyGeorgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif

Don't use FRAMES.

Keep text minimal and to the point. Your main or primary message should on the first screen. It should not be without scrolling down the page or navigating though you web site.

Use "attention getting" headlines.

Offer something of value on the web site. Ex. A database, calendar, product FAQ, tech support, news letter subscription, etc.

Don't use italicized words.

Change font face to Arial, Helvetica for easier reading. Keep the font size large enough for easy reading.

Use different colors on headline text for emphasis.

Use indented lists where appropriate for easy reading.

Place redundant navigational buttons or links

at the top and bottom of page for easy navigation.

Place your name, address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail link on every page.

Make website designing easy to request additional company/product information.

Don't include your own picture regardless how pretty you feel you are.

Minimize use of graphic files. Colored tables are an excellent way to add color without graphic file overhead.

If it's not important, don't put it on your web page.

Don't publish "Under Construction" pages.

Change page frequently.

Don't use Entrance or Doorway pages to your web site. You have only one opportunity to get your viewers attention. With Entrance pages, you've wasted your first opportunity to get your message across.
