SOROBANROOM 18 LEARNS ALL ABOUT THE SOROBAN

FROM OUR JAPANESE VISITORS.

We assemble in the hall to meet our Japanese visitors.Martin’s Mum translates their speeches and special messages for us. We can’t wait to learn more about

soroban.

The soroban is a japanese abacus. It has a wooden frame, which holds columns of beads. Hundreds of years ago it was the original calculator.

What on earth…?

Finally, a lesson in my language – Japanese!

HELP!

The Japanese students could solve really big problems really fast.

We really enjoyed spending time with our visitors. Afterwards, we demonstrated some of

our maths warm-ups then they watched us P.M.I the soroban in small groups.
