Specific Topography

• When taking Specific Topography, we consider a group of five adjacent vertebrae in the spine at any given area depending upon the Naprapath’s discretion.

• We first palpate the crests for size– Max, med, or min in relationship to one another.

• The first one to be recorded would be the one in the middle of the five, otherwise known as the “Star”

• This is always our starting point

Hyperesthesia Findings

• Now that we have completed our Specific Topography findings, our next step is the determination of our Hyperesthesia and Tension findings– Note that various pressures can be used to

take our findings• 4 pounds• 8 pounds• 20 pounds

License Review Class 3

Hyperesthesia Findings

– Note the three types of hyperesthesia • Superficial • Deep• Negative

Tension Findings

• As is the case for hyperesthesia findings, tension can be taken at three varying pressures:– 4 pounds

– 8 pounds– 20 pounds

License Review Class 3

Tension Findings

• Tension findings are recorded as follows:– Max Tension

• Drawn from the upper epiline to the lower epiline

– Med Tension• Drawn from the upper periline to the lower epiline

– Max Tension• Drawn from the upper periline to the lower periline

OID

• OID is a comparative tension finding– Taken medial-ward on two adjacent vertebrae– OID is marked obliquely downward in the soft-

to-soft direction• Vertically if no difference in tension is noticed• The OID is marked through the tensobar

– Sinin running inferior to the left– Dexin running inferior to the right– Verin straight down

ISH

• ISH (Inferior superior hyperesthesia) is taken on the four corners of the spinous process

• It is a supplemental finding – Will not necessarily change type of treatment

given– Will change the direction of your treatment in

a given area– Is recorded in corners of the epispace

IST

• IST (Inferior superior tension) is taken on the four corners of the spinous process– Is marked in the four stubby lines located at

each corner of the apebar

– The IST finding is recorded in three degrees of tension

• Max• Med• Min

Orderage and Speedage

• Orderage is the term applied to the direction in which you treat– Up Supero– Down Infero

• Speedage is the type of treatment to be given in a particular area:– Dynamic– Intermediate– Stat

• This is marked on the right and lower corner of the right therapy column
