“Good design begins with honesty, asks tough questions, comes from collaboration and trusting your intuition.” –Freeman Thomas, automobile designer

“With collaborations you never follow the same palette.” –Robin Rimraud, electronic musician

“By mashing-up soft and tough, abstract and literal, and other irreverent combinations, I hope to give women a platform to explore their own personal style.”

–Jodi Arnold

Taking effortlessly cool to a new level, Spring/Summer 2010 is designed for the modern woman whose sense of style is informed by her multi-layered lifestyle, which she manages with aplomb. In addition to Jodi Arnold’s signature special occasion pieces, the Collection features unique, versatile styles in seasonless fabrication, perfect for work or personal time.

When asked about the development of Spring/Summer 2010, Jodi comments, “Music and Art are a big part of my life. I love unique combinations that at first seem a bit off, that challenge the eye or ear. A musician friend of mine always asks me to listen to his music rather than just hear it. It’s the same with Art – I love paintings that make me question and wonder, that aren’t so straightforward. More than ever, this Collection is about shared discovery and pushing the boundaries. Georgia O’Keeffe’s abstract etches, Kehinde Wiley’s brash renderings, the movement in Vicky Barranguet’s paintings and the Serato mixer behind Girl Talk, all greatly influenced my designs in their own way. We call this collection ‘Mash Up’ to honor this collaborative process.”

Each piece in ‘Mash Up’ should be mixed and matched with one another and, more importantly, work effortlessly with what is already in a woman’s closet. Spring/Summer is always about fun and freshness.

Reflections of Nature

The Collection’s floral prints were inspired by the emotional wallop of Georgia O’Keeffe’s abstractions. O’Keeffe, most famously known for her representational subjects, painted many abstract works that remained under the radar throughout her career. Moved by the artist’s breadth of perspective, Jodi’s floral designs are meant to create different emotions by shifting viewpoint.

Drawing from other art forms, two of Jodi Arnold’s exclusive prints for Spring/Summer 2010 are interpretations of Uruguayan artist Vicky Barranguet’s paintings. Immersed in the local art scene, Jodi came across Vicky’s work and was immediately moved by the freedom and movement in each of her paintings. When asked about Vicky’s style, Jodi comments, “I’m a little jealous of Vicky’s care-free attitude. She abandons all rules and simply paints what’s in her soul.”

Creating a mash up of her own, Vicky’s paintings are all inspired by music, especially her husband, Gustavo Casenave’s irreverent compositions. Her paintings combine the emotion and energy of both art forms, culminating in art that can best be described as alive.

Jodi Arnold redefines sexy for Spring/Summer 2010. Rather than obvious, outwardly provocative styles, Jodi’s approach is much more coy. In keeping with her forward design aesthetic, sexiness stems from the obscure combination of soft fabrics, angled silhouettes and bold patterns. This “mash up” creates a canvas of self-expression limited only by one’s imagination.
