Project Purpose

• The purpose of this project is to address identified deficiencies along SR 0068 between SR 0422 and Hospital Way

• Replacement of the Karns Crossing Bridge Carries SR 0068 over the B&LE and B&P Railroads

• Replacement of the Twin-Cell Arch Culvert Carries SR 0068 over the Connoquenessing Creek

• Correct the Traffic Safety Issues at: SR 0068 / Delwood Road Intersection SR 0068 / SR 0422 EB Onramp Intersection

Project Requirements

• Maintain 1 Lane of Traffic in Each Direction along SR 0068 During Construction

• Maintain Access to Butler Memorial Hospital During Construction

Project Description

• Replace the Karns Crossing Bridge New 3 Span Continuous Steel Plate Girder Bridge

• Replace the Twin-Cell Arch Culvert over the Connoquenessing Creek New 1 Span Prestressed Concrete Bulb-Tee Beam Bridge

• Correct the Traffic Safety Issues at the SR 0068 / Delwood Road Intersection and SR 0068 / SR 0422 EB Onramp Intersection Add a Right Turn Lane on to Delwood Road for SR 0068 WB

Traffic (heading towards Butler) Add a Left Turn Lane on to Delwood Road for SR 0068 EB

Traffic (heading towards SR 0422 Interchange) Add a Right Turn Lane on to SR 0422 EB Onramp for SR 0068

Detour RouteDelwood Road will be closed at its intersection with SR 0068 for some phases during construction.

Motorists traveling between SR 0068 and Delwood Road will use 3rd Street and E. Brady Street for the detour route.The detour route is highlighted in blue in the adjacent figure.
