The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Aug. 15th
The Solemnity of the
Assumption is, in some ways, the
paramount feast of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, since it commemorates her passing, body and
soul, into the glory of Heaven.
The Assumption of Our Lady is the
teaching that the Blessed Mother was taken up, body and soul, into Heaven after her time here on earth. Her body was not subjected to any corruption or
decay.
SMM PHASE 2: MASS SCHEDULE ADDITIONS / TIME CHANGES
Phase 2 for SMM began August 1st with the addition of more daily masses, as well as weekend masses. Visit our Reopening Guidelines Page & Mass Times on our website for the most up to date info. Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines prior to coming to mass & watch the instructional video.
You must wear a mask and sanitize your hands upon entering.
If you are coming to church by yourself, please sit in a smaller pews on the sides, leaving the larger pews open for families.
Remain in your pew until an usher directs you to communion by going up your isle toward the center (see arrows on the floor.) Communion will continue to be at the end of mass.
On weekends, worship aides & bulletins are available online only. Go to www.smmchurch.org & view both under the bulletin section.

the church. You can also mail your donation to the parish office or make an online donation at

INTERESTED IN BECOMING A LECTOR?
Lectors are parishioners dedicated to reading the Scripture during Mass. Have you ever
considered becoming one? Any parishioner who has a good speaking voice is eligible.
We use a scheduling system called MSP which makes it easy for you to sign up, pick masses you prefer, and request a substitute when you can’t make it. If you are interesting in becoming a lector email Stephanie Casey at Stephanie.casey@smmchurch.org. We will gather the names over the summer to give to Justin Carisio, who facilitates our lector training sessions.

PARENTING POINTERS What posture or gestures do you find helpful to pray? For some, kneeling feels most reverent. For others sitting, holding hands, or gazing at nature helps. Parents often bless their child at bedtime with the sign of the cross. There is no wrong way but lots of right ways. S. Vogt
MARRIAGE MOMENTS It is good to pray and be a person of faith, BUT married couples don't always share the same faith or pray the same way. Even if you are of the same faith, ask each other how they describe God, what they really believe, or how they pray. You can be different but still united.
TO OUR
NEW PARISHIONERS
A warm welcome is extended to all who come to SMM Parish. All new parishioners are invited to register by contacting our parish office. Call us at 652-6800 or email receptionist@smmchurch.org and let us know you are interested in registering. We will get all the necessary information from you and get a parish ministries directory in your hands.
SCHEDULED EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED With the introduction of Phase 2 starting Saturday 8/1, which will include the addition of more weekend masses, we are in need of more scheduled Eucharistic Ministers (EM). Due to the pandemic the procedures for EM’s has changed. They are now scheduled in advance, 2 for each weekend mass. EM’s must check in with the sacristan upon arrival (please do not enter the sacristy, as it is closed), wear a mask & sanitize, and watch the EM training video prior to coming to mass to ensure you know the new procedures. If proper procedures are not followed, you will be asked to return to your seat.
Those who have already been trained and are comfortable being a Eucharistic Minister are asked to please sign up for specific dates in our Ministry Scheduler Pro system (MSP). If you need help using the MSP system, please contact Stephanie Casey at Stephanie.casey@smmchurch.org.
Those interested in becoming Eucharistic Ministers are asked to please email or call Karen.Yasik@smmchurch.org / 652-7141 for the proper training.
THIS WEEKEND: Please help the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Wilmington by your generous donation during the special collection being taken in all Catholic churches in DE & MD’s Eastern Shore on August 15/16. For more info and a video tour of our historic Cathedral, please visit cdow.org/cathedral.

SMM’s ST. BENEDICT PRAYER GARDEN We have been working hard cleaning up the prayer garden and creating a more open space. With several trees and bushes removed, as well as several plants added, it is coming along quite nicely! Be sure to visit the garden which includes the Stations of the Cross, many statues and several benches.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS WANTED Calling all teachers or former teachers! We are always looking to develop relationships with substitute teachers here at SMM. We are looking for experienced,
capable educators to consider joining our team of substitute teachers. If you are interested, please email Tina Gillen at tgillen@smmschoolde.com to begin our application and clearance process.
