St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
The Epistle
April, 2013
Love God. Love others. Help others love God.
We welcome you to join us on our journey as we strive to share the love of Jesus through worship, Christian education,
fellowship and service to each other and the community beyond our walls.
A Message from Your Rector
We have all heard or used the phrase “no news is good news” which basically means we
have not spoken to someone or heard any information about them and are hoping that it is
because nothing bad has happened to them. Bad news travels fast. It seems that at times we
thrive on it. In many businesses there is a sign that reads, “If you are happy with your service
tell your friends, if not tell us”. We are quick to judge but slow to compliment. It seems that it
is must easier to destroy than to build.
We have now entered the season where there is no “bad news”. The Good News is that
Jesus is alive and present to the Disciples and our world. This past winter seemed so dark and
gray; there were many days that I really missed the sunshine. The Season of Easter to me is like
basking in the sunshine. Allowing the warmth of the sun to penetrate our bodies, to feel the heat
of the sun feels so good. Our minds and bodies need what the sun offers us. We certainly feel
better on sunny days.
In Christ the “Son” shines all day long, one of the benefits of faith. We may feel alone
but we are not. The Footprints in the Sand poem comes to my mind. In Christ, who is the Light
of the World, there is no darkness, there is no bad news; there is only Good News. There is
forgiveness and eternal life. All the gifts we have are bestowed upon us freely because of the
benevolent love of the Trinity. We are a resurrection people. We need to act as such.
Therefore, we want to always proclaim that Christ is alive and to live our lives as such. There is
so much to proclaim that we want to proclaim it from the rooftops. There is so much to tell. Tell your
friends how Jesus has changed your life. Tell your friends about your church. Invite them to come and
enjoy what you enjoy. Tell them that they are loved and made in the image and likeness of God. Tell them
the Good News that Jesus is Risen.

corned beef and cabbage was perfectly fitting as we had lunch Monday before St. Patrick’s Day!
A big thanks to all of the cooks who donated their talents for our Lenten Suppers: Judy Shannon, Judy
Doherty, Kelly Parker-Seeley, Barb and Bruce Dailey, Ted and Judy Wolf, Father John, Lucy Pompeii,
Eunice Barton and Jennifer Westermann.
We also want to thank Bruce Dailey for leading the Lenten Program in Fr. John’s absence.

Welcome, Rabbi Barbara Goldman-Wartell Sunday, April 28
On Sunday, April 28th we will welcome Rabbi Barbara Goldman-Wartell of Temple Concord in Binghamton
to our services and to the Adult Forum. As many of us have questions about our Jewish heritage, I think this
will be an excellent time for us to expand our knowledge about our roots.
UTO Spring Gathering Sunday, April 28
The spring ingathering of the United Thank Offering will be on Sunday, April 28th. Please convert the coins in
your UTO Blue Box into bills or a check and bring to church in the provided UTO envelope; envelopes will be
distributed in the bulletin and are also available on the table at the back of the church. It is the mission of the
United Thank Offering to expand the circle of thankful people and to promote mission work throughout the
world. To achieve this we encourage daily prayers, offerings and awareness of God’s blessings.
Please remember to utter thanks often.
Thanks, Lorraine Jones

The buds are trying to peek their heads up and with that little sign of spring comes the need to prepare
the grounds for another beautiful Summer. We will be working on Saturday, May 4th from 9am to noon;
raking, tilling, trimming and doing other general outdoor clean up activities. We would love the help of
anyone willing to pitch in. You don’t even need a green thumb for this one. We have some tools but, if
you can bring some of your own that would be a huge help. Many hands make light work and, donuts
and coffee will be provided.

Our New Parish Secretary
It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you Christine Yannuzzi, our new parish secretary. Christine joined
us on March 11th

very quickly. Please join me in welcoming her to St. Paul’s. Please stop by and say “Hello”. She, her
husband and daughter live in Chenango Bridge.
Thank you for your patience in this transition. A great deal of gratitude goes out to Jennifer Westermann and
Janet Kriswalus for their stepping up and filling the chair, so to speak, by helping out in the meantime. Thank
you.
