Following successful trials, we willbe trying a new waste service in StPauls. Communal bins for generalwaste and recycling will be introducedto your area (shown overleaf) fromAugust 16th, and you can start usingthem straight away.

We will be removing your black wheeliebin and black box and we will only takewaste away from the communal bins.

Please be aware that this is anextension of the existing trial and thatwe are trying new ways to make yourstreets cleaner and clearer.

Why communal bins?We are trying to improve the way yourstreet looks while providing a goodwaste removal and recycling service.We will place bins within a shortdistance of your home to enable you toput your waste in “Little and Often”.We believe this will improve theappearance and safety of your streetand mean you will not have to storewaste in your home, in your frontgardens or on the pavement.

How will communal binshelp me?These bins are simple to use. You canuse the bins any time you like. Wesuggest you use the bins little andoften depositing small manageableamounts of waste at a time. If you areunable to take your waste to the binswe can help with an assisted collection.Please contact us by telephone oremail, contact details are shown below.

What if I have a big itemsuch as a sofa or fridge?Please do not leave your large items onthe roadside as we will collect themfrom your home. If you havemattresses, fridges, sofas or any otherlarge item you can call us. We can takethem away free of charge, if youreceive any of the following benefits:Council tax, Housing Benefit, IncomeSupport, Guaranteed Pension Credit.Please contact us by telephone oremail, contact details are shown below.

What impact willcommunal bins have onparking?Where possible, bins will be placed onwide pavements to prevent loss ofparking spaces. Any potential roadsafety issues have been considered andaddressed by the Council.

How do we know thatthis new service willwork?Until we try it in your street we don'tknow for sure that it will work but,what we do know is that it is workingin other locations in the city. A recentresident survey showed that 100% ofpeople thought their street wascleaner, 93% of people like using thebins and 96% want to keep the newservice. Recycling tonnage has showna 64% increase. We will monitor theservice making changes wherenecessary, and we will ask you whatyou think of the new service.

What will happen?Once the new bins are there, your oldbins and black boxes will be takenaway.

The new general waste bins will beemptied at least three times per weekand the recycling bins will be emptiedonce per week. We will check that weare emptying them regularly so theystay tidy.

What if my communalbin is full?Communal bins will be emptied threetimes per week, this will be monitoredbut if they are full please contact us.

GardenWaste ServiceIf you use the GardenWaste collectionservice this will remain the same andwill not change.
