Traction: Energy consumption in Turkey
• Turkey is the 17th biggest economy in the world by GDP and According to the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (MENR), the demand for energy has been growing by 5.7% yearly on average in the last 12 years and is expected to grow by about 6% per year until 2020.
• Turkey has an installed power generation capacity of 69,681 MW with a projected capacity of 100 GW by 2023. In order to keep up with the increasing demand, Turkey needs to invest more in electricity that is obtained in a sustainable and efficient manner.
Problem Identification• The increase of demand of energy is expected to be mainly
driven by the power generation sector, which depends highly on imported natural gas. Hence dependence on imported energy source will make affordability more expensive for end to end user in Turkey.
• The share of the renewable energy is still relatively low in the overall Turkish energy market that allows ST SOLAR HOLDINGS to be a major supplier of photovoltaic energy.
