Fr. Del’s Points to Ponder I’m guessing that a few parishioners have heard the term “Theology of the Body.” There has been an emphasis on the term in the past few years, yet most folks have no idea to what the term refers. What’s this new-fangled theology that the Churchy in-crowd seems to understand, but the rest of us are left believing that we are second-class Catholics?
Take heart! There is absolutely nothing new about the meaning within the term. In fact, we have all grown up understanding the Incarnation: The Eternal Word takes flesh in Jesus. I remember receiving a Christmas card years ago which stated, “The birth of Christ is our realization that it’s not half bad to be human!” The light-hearted sentiment is a serious statement about the Incarnation, that God thinks so much of us that He became one of us in Christ.
Aside from becoming a very lucrative business for promoting Theology of the Body, the often-presented theology as a prohibition of sex outside of marriage misses the positive attributes of the theology completely. Theology of the Body (TOB) is not a negative teaching about human sexuality, but a positive perspective about how God is revealed through the human body, sexuality included. TOB is not an interdict but an encouragement to use our bodies wisely and ethically as people created in the image and likeness of God. We all have a responsibility to use the gift of our bodies as the means through which God relates to the world.
John Paul II’s Four Pillars of The Theology of the Body are often cited today, though are not exhaustive of our understanding of the sacredness of our body: 1) The human body is sacrament, 2) The human body, as male and female, has an inherently spousal dimension, 3) The human vocation is to become a total gift of self, and 4) All authentic love finds its fulfillment in forming a communion of persons.
At the heart of these pillars is the awareness that human beings, together with God, form a communion — the very nature of the Church — of people working together for the betterment of the world. This is a statement of justice that we live in right relationship with God, one another, and the earth. Using the language of Pope Francis we are a culture of encounter.
In the end, TOB challenges us to look at how we orient ourselves, here and now, either toward the fall or toward redemption. This becomes definitive for how this present life is lived. Beware of the person who uses TOB as a scare tactic or moralistic restriction about how we live our lives. Yes, we ought to live our lives as appropriate to the relationships and states in life that we hold important. A mature understanding of TOB is a statement about the freedom and joy to live the love of Christ Himself, as He lived, and how He lives it in our lives now.

NOTES FROM THE STEWARDSHIP COMMISSIONSt. Veronica Parish has created Small Church Communities to help foster growth in discipleship and build community among it’s members. Members pray for one another, care for one another and develop relationships with other friends in faith. Online registration is available at www.stveronica.org. Faith Formation Small Church Communities or contact Bill Frantz, Pastoral Associate (bill.frantz@stveronica.org).
FAITH DIRECTFaith Direct is an online donation processing organization currently being used by over 1/3 of St. Veronica parishioners. It is a convenient and hassle-free way to support our parish, St. Vincent de Paul, the Outreach Power pack program, all the Holy Day collections and all the collections initiated by the Archdiocese. Please consider using Faith Direct and avoid scrambling around to find envelopes. Visit info@faithdirect.net. Our parish code is OH 221.
WELCOME TO ST. VERONICAWhether you are a first-time visitor or returning, we are glad you are here! We welcome new members to this community of faith. If you have recently changed addresses, phone numbers or email accounts, please inform the office. If you are interested in knowing more about St. Veronica Parish, contact us via Office@stveronica.org or call us at 528-1622 (Church), 528-0442 (School), or 688-3155 (Religious Education). Registration forms for membership, school and REP can be found in the back of church or online at Stveronica.org.
Under Construction You may have noticed evidence of some remodeling taking place outside of church. A group of volunteers have been working to transform the “old office area” next to the church into an area to be used for smaller parish gatherings. Transformation of the space will take place in phases. In the first phase, there will be a Welcome Area where people can get information about the parish, and do some parish business on weekends. The rest of the area will be a flexible meeting space that can be used for small meetings, space for families who are having funeral visitations at church, as well as a space where wedding parties can use the space in preparation for the ceremony. At this point, all of the interior walls have been removed. There will be a new ceiling, flooring, HVAC, paint on the walls and lighting. We may be asking for volunteer help with a few of the tasks in the near future. The next phase will be to add a kitchenette with sink, cupboards and space for some kitchen appliances. We will move to that phase once we have funds secured. The dream phase is to extend the narthex outside to the end of the “porch.” This will give us more interior space in the narthex for funeral visitations, as well as allow parishioners to access the Welcome Area and Meeting Area without going outside. Further updates will be given very soon.

Mass Plus – A New Parish Learning Opportunity
The most important thing we do as a parish, Fr. Del always reminds us, is Sunday Mass. You know how Mass goes, what to do or say. But what is happening on a deeper level? How can you more deeply pray the Mass, and not just attend it?
This school year the Faith Formation Commission is offering a monthly event called Mass Plus – an addition to 9:30 or 11:30 a.m. Mass. Stay after 9:30 or come early for 11:30 a.m., or come back if you’ve been to 4:00 or 8:00 p.m.! Adults and kids, 4th grade and up start together, then adults stay with Emily Besl and children go with Bill Frantz to explore the meaning of the Mass and why we do the things we do.
Each month, we’ll look at different parts of the Mass. Come to all or come when you can. ♦ for adults and older children (4th grade & up) ♦ once a month ♦ between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Masses on Sundays ♦ in the school cafeteria 10:35 to 11:20 a.m. ♦ short, informal, 45 minutes
November 17th topic: The Liturgy of the Word.DATES: November 17, December 15, January 12, Febuary 9, March 8, April 19, May 17, June 14.
Mass Plus – Come to Mass, stay for more!

THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 10, 2019
SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is scheduled on Sundays, either at Mass or at 12:30 p.m. Expectant parents should plan on attending the Baptismal Preparation Program, held six times a year. Call the Parish Office to schedule the Baptism and Preparation Program. The Sacrament of Baptism for adults and school age children is usually celebrated at the Easter Vigil, along with the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Preparation occurs in steps and stages throughout the year with weekly meetings on Sunday after 9:30 a.m. Mass. Call Emily Besl at 688-3143, or the Parish Office for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING The Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation or Confession) is celebrated each Saturday, 2:30-3:30 p.m., or by appointment with the pastor. Seasonal Penance Services are also celebrated. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick may be scheduled by calling the pastor before a medical procedure, or in the event of a serious illness, or after each Mass on the fifth Sunday of the month. When hospitalized, please notify the Parish Office; this is the only way we know if a parishioner has been hospitalized. In case of medical emergency or death, call the Parish Office and follow prompts.
SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT The Sacrament of Marriage is scheduled by calling the pastor or deacon to begin the process of marriage preparation, at least six months prior to the anticipated wedding date. A date for the wedding is set only after meeting with the pastor or deacon. Discernment for the Sacrament of Orders (ordination to the Priesthood and Diaconate) is facilitated by contacting the pastor or Vocation Director of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Those interested in pursuing Religious Life may also make these contacts.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM The Religious Education Program (R.E.P.) for children (ages 3 years through 8th Grade) begins each year in September and ends in May. Call Theresa Kearney, Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation, or Barb Farwick, Administrative Assistant, at 688-3155 for more information.
