Homes with Hope is a Westport-based grassroots response to the tragedy of homelessness. Witha caring professional staff and the help of more than 500 volunteers, we assist people who havelost their ability to lead independent lives. Each night, over 100 people seek shelter or housing in one of our programs. While 70% of our funding comes from private individuals and foundations, we aresupported by the State of CT, and the Towns of Westport, Weston and Wilton.
The agency has grown significantly since first opening in 1984, when emergency services for homelessmen were offered in an abandoned firehouse. The agency realized that food and shelter alone werenot enough to help people move from homelessness to self-reliance. In response, Homes with Hope, founded initially as the Interfaith Housing Association, expanded the support services and housingoptions available to men, women and families by providing the resources needed for them to besuccessful in their journey out of homelessness. We fulfill our mission with a continuum of servicesthat starts with feeding the hungry through our Community Kitchen and Food Pantry and includes:emergency shelters, Permanent Supportive Housing, case management services, pre-employment training and mentoring.

Now celebrating its 86th season, Westport Country Playhouse has produced more than 775 plays. It was designated as an official project of Save America’s Treasures by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and is entered on the Connecticut State Register of Historic Places. Following a multi-million dollar renovation completed in 2005, the Playhouse enhanced its rich history as a summer venue into a year-round, state-of-the-art producing theater, which has preserved its original charm and character.
The list of actors, directors and other theater artists who have worked and continue to perform on the playhouse’s legendary stage reads like a “Who’s Who” of the American theater. They include, in recent years, Karen Allen, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Chenoweth, Jill Clayburgh, Jane Curtin, Richard Dreyfuss, Philip Seymour Hoffman, James Earl Jones, Eartha Kitt, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Christopher Plummer, Martin Short and Gene Wilder; and in past years, Olivia de Havilland, Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda, Helen Hayes, Gene Kelly, Liza Minnelli, Gloria Swanson and Jessica Tandy.
