Statistical analysis on

increase in air pollution and

its effectsBY,K.M.Bharthe

INTRODUCTION

Air pollution is the introduction of harmful substances like

chemicals, smoke etc into the atmosphere that causes damage

of the environment.

INTRODUCTION

A substance in the air that can be adverse to humans and the

environment is known as an air pollutant. Pollutants can be in the

form of solid particles, liquid droplets, or gases. In addition,

they may be natural or man-made…Some of the major pollutants are

listed in the next slide

Sulphur oxides

Nitogen oxides

Carbon emmisions, especially CFCs

Particulates

Methane,Ammonia,Radioactive pollutants & Odors

How is it measured?

AQI (Air Quality Index) is the measure of air pollution

It indicates whether pollutant levels in air may cause health

concerns.Ranges from 0 (least concern) to

500 (greatest concern)

Air Quality Air Quality Index Protect Your Health

Good 0-50 No health impacts are expected when air quality is in this range.

Moderate 51-100 Unusually sensitive people should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.

Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups

101-150 Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

Unhealthy 151-200 Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion, everyone else, especially children should limit prolonged outdoor excertion.

Very Unhealthy

(Alert)

201-300 Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion everyone else, especially children, should limit outdoor exertion.

its harmful effects are…

The greenhouse effect is a process by which thermal

radiation from a planetary surface is absorbed by

atmospheric greenhouse gases, and is

re-radiated in all directions. Since part of this re-

radiation is back towards the surface and the lower

atmosphere, it results in an elevation of the average

surface temperature above what it would be in the

absence of the gases

Steady Increase in emmision of greenhouse

gases since 1990

amount of release of cArbon in tonnes per person in various countries

Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere

PH scale of Ozone

Cycle of Ozone

death rates due to air pollution

Some realistic facts and statistics about air pollution

Facts

We take in over 20 times more the acceptable level of air pollution

each day…Breathing daily air pollution is like

smoking 20 cigarettes a day…Emissions from power plants contribute to over 2,800 lung

cancer deaths, and 38,200 heart attacks annually in the U.S …

REMEDIES

Alternative Energies:• Adopting alternative energy sources

can drastically improve outdoor air quality. • Replacing fossil fuel combustion with

cleaner technologies would decrease the production of carbon dioxide.

• If people reduce the burning of sulphur-rich coal and gas, they can lower the levels

of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide.

Remedies

• Remove dust & dirt from every corner.• Dispose of waste hygienically.

• Use biodegradable eco-friendly products instead of plastics.

• Grow trees if you have a garden. Potted plants can be put in small spaces. In over

crowded areas air-purifiers could be installed.

• Pure clean air is a need of the hour. Lets spread awareness & ensure that the air

around us is clean.

So, Let’s aim towards “…Sustainable development…”

If we work together, we can achieve our goal of living in an environment-

friendly and green atmosphere.

Let’s join hands to have a clean and a green earth…!!
