SOUND
Sounds waves are made of vibrations, sound waves can travel through gases, solid, and liquids. When sound waves reach your ear, your eardrum vibrates, enabling you to hear the sound.
Vocabulary
•Vibration: A series of back and forth movements.
•Loudness: The amount of energy a sound has.
•Pitch: The highness or lowness of a sound.
Activity in class
Read the book on pages 584 - 586. Then answer the questions.
1.What does pitch describe about a sound?
2.Could you hear under water?
3.How does a harp make sound?
4.If sound goes through the air by causing the air to
vibrate, how do you think it goes through a solid or
liquid?
HOMEWORK:
• Give examples of sounds with high and low pitch.• Bring materials for the project.

•Empty paper towel roll•Dried rice and beans•Stapler•Gravel•Masking tape
Hands on work: Making a phone
Students will make a “phone” using two empty glasses and a long string
Activity in class
Draw a picture of the activity and write the conclusions about how solid can vibrate and transmit sound.
