ents/ guardians) who had enteredone of PHCC’s CTE programs toattend a ceremony and lunch. Theevent now will be Feb. 27.

Henry County Public Schoolswill close two hours early today.Martinsville city schools will alsodismiss two hours early and all af-ter school activities are canceledfor today.

A Bassett woman and her unbornchild are dead, and a Fieldale manis charged with shooting her in theface Tuesday night outside a resi-dence in Fieldale.

Krystal Anne McReynolds, 34, ofMcKinley Drive in Bassett, died atCarilion Roanoke Memorial Hospi-tal on Wednesday night, a releasefrom the Henry County Sheriff’s Of-fice said.

McReynolds was four to fivemonths pregnant, the release said,and her unborn child also passedaway.

Thomas Christopher McDow-ell, 35, of 42Badger Drive inFieldale was ar-rested Wednesdaymorning and afterMcReynolds’ deathcharges were up-graded to second-degree murder andthe use of a firearmduring the commission of a murder.

Earlier he had been charged withaggravated malicious wounding,use of a firearm during the commis-sion of a felony and possession of afirearm by a convicted felon. Inves-tigators said that additional chargesare expected.

The situation unfolded at 9:48p.m. Tuesday when the Martins-ville-Henry County Emergency 911Center received a call of an individ-ual who had been shot at 60 FourthSt. in Fieldale, the release said.

Deputies arrived at 9:52 and foundMcReynolds lying outside with “atleast one gunshot wound to theface,” Henry County Sheriff’s Capt.Wayne Davis said in the release.

McReynolds was taken to Sovah-Martinsville and transferred to Car-illon Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The body of the unborn child hasbeen taken to the Medical Examin-er’s office in Roanoke to determinethe cause of death.

Grand jury declines to indict man onmurder charge

A charge of second-de-gree murder has been dis-missed against Devontae

Massey, 24, of Martinsvilleafter a Martinsville GrandJury failed to indict him onthe charge certified to themby Martinsville CircuitCourt Judge Joan Ziglar.

Instead, the Grand Jury

indicted Massey on chargesof voluntary manslaughterand unlawful shooting atan occupied dwelling.

Massey is charged for hisalleged involvement in theshooting death on Jan. 1,2019, of Rasheem OsheaHairston, of Eden, N.C., aformer resident of the Mar-tinsville area.

Neither Lori Fox nor KeithRitchie have any dancing ex-perience, yet they are power-

ing across the dance floor with gusto.The couple, paired up by Piedmont

Arts to dance in the museum’s fun-draising Dancing for the Arts com-petition, is working hard enough attheir dances “to make it worthwhile,”Ritchie said.

They will be dancing a salsa danceand a Broadway jazz-style danceduring Piedmont Arts’ event on April

4, where they will compete againstseven other couples.

Ritchie said he was honored to beasked to compete in DFTA, and “Ithought this chance would not comeagain, so I should say ‘yes’ to it.”

Ritchie said he has hit the dancefloor at wedding receptions andholiday balls, but when it comes toparticular styles and choreography,
