Opening Ceremony

• Cub Scout Sign–Whenever you see a leader do the Cub Scout Sign, that means

everyone needs to be quiet. You do it too.

Introduction to Cub Scouting

• Who has heard of Cub Scouts? • What kinds of activities do Cub Scouts do?• Is it FUN?

Introduction to Cub Scouting

• Cub Scouts is a program of the Boy Scouts for boys and girls in Grades 1-5 where we have fun, learn new things, discover and master new skills, gain self-confidence, and develop strong friendships

• We are about 65 scouts in Grades 1 through 5, mostly from Peter Noyes

• We meet in Dens – groups of about 6-10 kids all your same age

• We meet as a Pack – where all the Dens get together at the same time

• Is it FUN? YES!!

Some of the things we do are….

• Camping, hiking• Overnights at Museum of Science, PawSox,

Battleship Cove• Roller Kingdom• Escape Room• Rocket Launch• Pinewood Derby!• Red Sox game, including march around field• March in 4th of July and Memorial Day parades• And lots more!!!

What is Cub Scouting?

• Year-Round, Family-Friendly program led by adult volunteers and designed for boys and girls in Grade 1 through 5 (ages 6-10)

• Everyone starts as a Bobcat• Earned prior to any other badge• Bobcat badge requirements

–Learn and say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.–Learn and say the Scout Law, with help if needed.–Show the Cub Scout sign–Show the Cub Scout handshake–Say the Cub Scout Motto–Show the Cub Scout Salute–With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the

pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide—Bobcat Requirements.

Dens

• 6 to 10 scouts per den (single gender)• Meet once per month• Work on required and elective “Adventures”• Den Leader – organizes, submits achievements• Purpose:

–Learn to work together in a group to do activities that will help them earn awards appropriate for their age group

–Held any day of week at any location; den chooses–Handbook describes required and elective adventures to

achieve in order to advance to the next rank

• All dens meet together monthly at a Pack Meeting

• Each Pack Meeting has a theme (ex: Community Service, Team Building, Physical Fitness)

• Special Events– Camping at Camp Resolute– 3 Year Overnight Rotation

• Battleship Cove Overnight (May 2017)• PawSox Camping (June 2018)• Museum of Science Overnight (November 2018)

• Pack activities, camping, food, facility rental, Class B shirts, Pinewood Derby, Model Rockets, Adult Leader fees, bank and payment processing fees, belt loops and awards, printing, website, email, administrative costs

Parental Involvement

• Cub Scouting is hands on.• It offers you a fantastic way to interact with your

kids that you wouldn’t otherwise. • Our expectation is that scouting is a family event,

run by volunteers, and we need every family to participate in order to be successful for your kids.

• Find a way to incorporate your hobbies, interests, connections into your child’s scouting experience.

• It’s gratifying and fun to lead kids at this age.
