PRODUCING PCB LAYOUTS

Suggestions:

Our class found that Yanka was Idea for creating PCB Board Layouts.

Yanka allows a user to print off a bill of materials. (It includes English Pricing)

Open Yanka, use PCB with Electronics

Design a Circuit!

Copy and Past into Rectangular PCB Space

Click on the second icon on the top right!

Print the Bill of MaterialsMake changes (such as 386 for 555)

Safety Instructions

Solutions used in etching are CorrosiveEveryone must wear gloves and goggles when

working with such chemicalsWe will not be using in this classIs not recommended for use at home

What to Etch?

Need to design a circuit schematicWires will be the

copper that is not etched

Patterning PCB Boards

STEP 1: Print schematic on magazine paper with a laser printer(Suggestion)

Print on Laser printable Transparency

STEP 2: Clean PCB board with a wire mesh pad and rinse with water

Patterning PCB Boards

STEP 3: Iron the board 1 min and then on the design onto the PCB board for ~1 minute

(Suggestion) Iron for up to five minutes Or press for a minute or two

Patterning PCB Boards

STEP 4: Place the PCB into water and gently remove the magazine paper

(Suggestion) Print on Laser printable

Transparency using water to take off magazine paper is not needed. The print is transferred directly to the PCB Board.

Etching PCB Boards

STEP 5: Use a black permanent marker to lay out any tracks that need protection

STEP 6: Send to a lab and have the boards chemically etched.

Why Chemically Etch the Copper?

Able to form electrical connections between circuit componentsNo external wiresContinuous connections

Copper

Cu Very high thermal

properties Great electrical

conductivityGreat properties for

charge carrier material in PCB!!
