z Summertime z
It is hard to believe, but summer is
halfway over. We were blessed with
rain and more rain earlier this year
so there should be water for our
lawns and trees this year. With all
this sunshine, this greenery will grow
and grow! Yes, it is hot, but please be
mindful of doing your lawn main-
tenance. Some trees are starting to
droop into the streets. If your trees
hang over the street, they should be
trimmed to allow at least 3 feet of
clearance for your tallest vehicle.
Mold is going to be a problem in
shady areas, so have some bleach
handy to take care of this. Gutters
also need to be swept.
Wondering what to do with your
spare time? The pool is a great place
to cool off or spend a relaxing eve-
ning with family or friends. Thanks
to the efforts of Anthony Tallerine
and Rossana Ballesteros, the volley-
ball court has had a makeover and is
ready for you to come and play! Need
a good workout? How about a tennis
match or some Tai Chi? If you prefer
air conditioning, we have a pool table
in the adult room. Just call Carolyn at
(281) 444-3522 and reserve a time.
We had a wonderful 4th of July
parade. It was delightful to see so
many of you come out to be with us.

THE FOREST NEWS August 2015 3
Deed Restrictions After a relatively cool spring with plentiful rainfall,
summer arrived with a vengeance in July. The con-
stant rainfall assisted trees, shrubs, lawns, and even
weeds to grow quickly. It’s relaxing and therapeutic
for many to work in their yards during nice weather
but, when hot weather arrives, some people can’t or
won’t venture out into the heat to perform regular yard
maintenance. This results in overgrown lawns that
make our neighborhood appear less appealing and
devalues our properties.
Every homeowner in Greenwood Forest received a
copy of the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions
when they purchased property in the subdivision.
This document is available on the Greenwood Forest
website for all residents to review. When purchasing
a home in this subdivision, you agree to abide by the
Deed Restrictions for Greenwood Forest.
This article focuses especially on Article Six, Section
One of the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions.
According to the above referenced article, “Every
owner of a lot, by acceptance of a deed or title, shall
not permit the Lot or any improvements (including but
not limited to the grass, shrubs, trees, driveways, walks
and fences) to be otherwise maintained than in safe,
neat, and attractive condition.” This provision allows
the HOA Board of Directors to send notice to those
property owners who do not maintain their lot and, if
the problem is not remedied, contract with a company
to perform the work and file a lien upon the property
for the cost.
Rather than be forced to take punitive measures, the
HOA Board of Directors asks that all Greenwood For-
est property owners be good neighbors and properly
maintain your yards. Lawns need to be mowed, edged,
and weed-eated weekly. Weeds in f lowerbeds, walk-
ways, and driveways need to be pulled and/or sprayed
with weed killer. Shrubs and trees should be trimmed
and shaped especially at the street so that pedestri-
ans and motorists can clearly see oncoming traffic. If
time constraints or health prevent you from properly
maintaining your lot, there are very affordable lawn
services that can provide maintenance service.
We encourage all residents to drive and walk by your
property and view it from the perspective of your
neighbors and visitors to the neighborhood. Ask your-
self, “If I were looking for a house to purchase, would
I purchase my house in its present condition?” Are you
contributing to the desirability of Greenwood Forest or
detracting from it?
Greenwood Forest has been a respected community
for many years. We are asking all residents to abide by
the deed restrictions and maintain your property and
help keep Greenwood Forest a desirable and beautiful
neighborhood.

Women’s Club Thanks to all who participated in the July 4th Parade,
Patty Natole for allowing the decorating of the fl oat at

represented Women’s Club that day – especially the
two in the risqué bikinis.
We want everyone to rejoin and encourage new mem-
bers to come by fi lling in the membership form includ-
ed in this edition of The Forest News. Just $20 will
get you good company, great food, entertainment and

Please let your new neighbors know that there is far
more to Women’s Club than just attending meetings.
There are lots of other activities to maintain and pro-

THE FOREST NEWS August 2015 7
The annual Greenwood Forest 4th of July Parade
was a wonderful neighborhood celebration. There
were many organizations participating along with fi re
trucks, fl oats, rousing band music and a parade of
cars. We hope everyone was able to join in the crowds
along the route and enjoy this patriotic salute.
The theme of the Garden Club’s entry was “Red,
White and Bloomers.” Charlotte and Jim Kelly were
very gracious allowing members to glue hundreds of
silk fl owers and banners on their truck. When fi n-
ished, the truck was a work of art rolling down Cham-
pion Forest Drive with bathing beauties on board
handing out candy.
The Yard of the Month goes to James and Mim
Stamos at 12002 Indian Wells. Congratulations
on keeping a beautiful yard in the middle of a hot
Texas summer!
Be sure and notice the wonderful sign on the espla-
nade on Champion Forest as you enter the neigh-
borhood from the south (Bammel) side. Ann Stone
Home & Garden Club and “JD” Jonathon Dobbs did an outstanding job
painting the sign upon completion of the fabrication
by the metalwork students at KFHS. This is the fi rst
of fi ve signs to go up and all thanks to the red bow
funds. All that cutting, tying, fl uffi ng and selling was
so worthwhile as we contribute to the neighborhood!
If you aren’t a Home & Garden Club member yet,
we hope you will consider joining this fun and in-
formative group. We meet at 9:30 am on the fourth
Thursday of each month beginning in September.
Our annual garage sale will be in October. Now is
the time to start saving those items you would like to
donate to the club.
Please complete the membership form included in this newsletter and return it to the member-ship chair Mary Jacoby along with your dues for the year.
We look forward to seeing everyone in Sep-tember as the clubs start up again after the summer hiatus.
Yard-of-the-Month forJuly was selected from homes on the west side of Champion Forest Drive.

FIREWORKS: As many residents are aware the
possession and use of fireworks in the unincorporated
areas of Harris County is legal.
What is not legal is the raining of hot debris from aeri-
al fireworks on residents’ homes, the blocking of streets
to utilize those fireworks, the littering of streets with
the refuse of those fireworks and the use of fireworks
clearly too large for residential areas. When the recur-
ring explosion sets off car alarms, rattles neighbors’
windows and put pets under beds they are too large.
Be responsible and considerate of your neighbors in
your actions.
STREETLIGHTS: A number of streetlights in
GF are out. We pay the same for a working light as
a non-working one. If you see a non-working light,
please report the location and 6-digit number located
on the pole to Caroline at the Greenwood Club
office. The number on the pole is reflective, about
7-feet up and facing the street.
