15th, 16th, 17th, 18th & 19th SUNDAYS AFTER PENTECOST - SEPTEMBER 2018
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9
8:30 & 10:45 a.m. Holy Eucharist
9:30 a.m. Christian Formation for all ages resumes!
We will gather in the Parish Hall for our kickoff, the commissioning of our teachers and Catechists, plus a few surprises! You must be present to win!
CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD Children 3 years old - 6th grade
Catechesis is a Montessori approach to the religious formation of children, rooted in the Bible and the liturgy of the church. It also adheres to the educational principals of Maria Montessori, whose philosophy was to teach children with an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s intrinsic desire to learn.
The Seekers 7th – 12th grade Offers topical, yet Bible-based lessons based on current events and other trending subjects that have an immediate relevancy to youth. What better way to capture the attention of a young person than to discuss things that are important to them, to talk about what they are talking about.
For Adults The Sunday Lectionary Class is a Christian education offering for adults that meets every Sunday year-round. This gathering features a presentation on selected texts from the scriptures appointed for the day’s liturgy, followed by lively discussions as the class wrestles with the readings to find meanings for today. The presentations and discussions aim to be enlightening, nourishing and challenging (and many say they’re frequently entertaining as well).
God, who is the giver of every good gift, you are ever present
in our lives and in the world. You act through us, your people,
to care for and provide for everyone. We pray for the courage
to break out of our insecurity and fear around money as we
deepen our understanding of our relationship to you and how
we use our financial resources to do your work in the world.
We pray these things that we might know you better, that you
will increase our desire and ability to give and help others
through ministry and friendship and to gratefully commit
ourselves to the work you have given us to do. Amen.

The Altar Guild is one of the most essential ministries in the Church. We
make the first step of our Sunday services happen. We are a behind the
scenes group, a lot like the props committee and stage hands!! Without
us, none of the rest happens for the Sunday service. That being said,
please give some prayerful consideration to joining the Altar Guild...we
need you. We provide OJT and one on one training. Please contact Cathy
Sparks for more information. P.S. Gentlemen are welcome to join us!

Camp Able Fall Weekend September 7 – 9 Camp Bratton-Green
Camp Able at Bratton-Green is a gift of mutual
respect and compassion wrapped up in silliness and
love and are designed for those individuals ages 10
and up with diverse abilities (mental or physical
disabilities).
At Camp Able we aspire to be a community that
celebrates our diverse abilities and gifts. Camp Able
is not about what we can't do, whether camper or
staffer, the focal point is what we "can" do.
Camp Able is about forming a community that loves
us just as we are. Our goal is to establish, at least for
one weekend, a community of unconditional love,
compassion and acceptance. For more information
please visit www.campable.org.
All Saints’ will
host the
Honduras
Medical Mission
scheduled for
February 2019
There are many
ways to help make
this mission a
success. If you can
donate any of these
items, please drop
them off at the
office during the
week or in the Nave
on Sundays.
All Saints’ Assistance
Program
In July, we assisted 54 families
with a total of 139 children under
the age of 18.
$16,631.83 Was
was distributed from the Family Resource Center
grant to assist families with utility deposits and
payments, rental deposits and payments and
temporary emergency housing.
July Activities Included:
✓ Mississippi Balance of State Continuum of
Care Northeast MS Meeting
✓ City of Tupelo Homelessness Task Force
meeting
✓ Tupelo Transit Community Stakeholder
Meeting
✓ Red Cross of N MS Board Meeting
✓ United Way Emergency Food and Shelter
Committee Meeting
In July, Hannah Maharrey and Brandy Gant
participated in the Tupelo-Lee County Hunger
Coalition bulk corn distribution. The corn was
donated by the Society of St. Andrews, a gleaning
organization. This corn went to our area food
pantries and soup kitchens.
Since 2010, Saints’ Brew has served
156,994 meals to individuals, families with children, those employed
who are food insecure and homeless persons.
The Saints’ Brew Task Force met in August to begin
developing a plan for the long-term growth and
management of Saints’ Brew. The discussion centered
around job responsibilities for overseeing the management
of Saints’ Brew and outlining the team members’ day to
day responsibilities. We also addressed the day to day
operations and how to continue the excellence that has
become the standard with Saints’ Brew.
We look forward to sharing more details as plans are
developed over the next several months!
For more than 70 years, Camp
Bratton-Green and the Duncan M.
Gray Center have served as a
sanctuary from the outside world –
a place of outdoor adventures,
friendships formed, spirits renewed,
and camp traditions that mellow into enduring memories.
But a summer, a weekend or a day spent here is not an
end in and of itself. While the work here has been
extraordinary, the limited space and aging facilities have
become stumbling blocks. The time has come to create
the Camp Bratton-Green and Gray Center facilities that will
match the Camp and conference center’s life-changing
spirit. The Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi has launched
an ambitious campaign to renew this place of renewal.
When you support this campaign, you will be doing more
than providing physical enhancements. You’ll be planting
seeds that help to grow the Kingdom of God. For more
information about how to contribute, visit
www.graycenter.org.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS Family size boxes of Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops,
Raisin Bran, coffee, sugar and creamer
We depend on donations of these items, as it helps us
reduce our spending.

“STRONGER TOGETHER”
The latest issue of Living
Lutheran includes an
article entitled “Stronger
Together”, an exploration
of several Lutheran
congregations
worshipping with our full
communion partners. Kelly Moore, a Moravian pastor who is
serving a North Carolina ELCA congregation says that from what
she sees, full communion is a blessing: “It strengthens us. It
strengthens our souls; it strengthens our bodies; it strengthens
our churches.”
To read the full article, see the August 2018 issue of Living
Lutheran at www.livinglutheran.org.
CHRIST THE KING
FOR OUR YOUTH IN 7th – 12th GRADES
SUNDAYS @ 9:30 a.m.
In the Sr. High Sunday School room
Josh Westmoreland returns to lead this class of 7th – 12th graders
through Bible-based lessons based on current events and other
trending subjects that have an immediate relevancy to youth. With
his guidance, last year they explored such topics as having the
courage to find their own voice and give voice to others when it’s
needed and how to move beyond inclusion to discipleship for
people with disabilities.
CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD
For children 3 years old – 6th grade
Sundays at 9:30 – 10:35 a.m. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a mainstay at All
Saints’. It is a Montessori approach to the religious
formation of children, rooted in the Bible and the
liturgy of the church. Each atrium – or classroom –
is led by an adult catechist with a minimum of 90
hours of training.
Special note to parents: This semester, our 3
year olds – 2nd grade will work in the Level I atrium,
while our 3rd – 6th graders work in the Level II
atrium. We begin each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and dismiss at 10:35
a.m. After Catechesis dismisses, the nursery will be open for
children 3 – 5 years old.
Our certified catechists are:
Level I: Tricia Edmonson and Joellen Murphree
Level II: Kamme Riddle, Stacy White, Marrion Winders
Assistants: Sue Ann Averett, Kelly Fleming and Emily Jackson
SUNDAY LECTIONARY
SUNDAYS ~ 9:30 a.m. South breakout room of the Parish Hall
The Sunday Lectionary Class, led by Les
Alvis, is a Christian education offering for
adults that meets every Sunday year-
round. With participants ranging from the
outspoken to the quiet listener and
everything in between, there is a place for
everyone seeking to hear what the Spirit
is saying to the Church. Thoughtful
engagement with the Christian tradition
helps us to see God at work in our lives
and in the world around us. All are
welcome, especially visitors and
newcomers. Contact the church office to
be added to the group’s weekly email list.
Education for Ministry will begin their
studies in September. Ken Murphree will
be returning as a mentor and we are
pleased to announce that Virginia
Chambers will be serving as co-mentor of
the group. 4th year students are: Deanna
Alford, Margaret Barshaw and Beth Harris.
3rd year student: Jeff Tomlinson. 2nd year
students are: Cristel Cody, Harry
Dieckmann, Michelle Hester and Emily
Jackson. Anna Fleming joins the group for
her first year. Registration for EfM has
