COMPAC “The SurfacesCompany” is one of themost important companiesproducing quartz surfaceswith “engineered stone”technology.Strategically situated at Abrantes(Portugal) - next to the quartzquarries and the logistic platformthat is Lisbon harbour to supplyUSA, Latin America, UK, and NorthEurope - the factory sits on a plotof 6.450.000 sqf of which 537.500sqf house the four production lineswhich full capacity can exceed 2million square meters per year.
From 2003, this Spanish family-run company provides itstechnological quartz products toall the world through an extensiveinternational network ofdistributors and its own offices inPortugal, Spain, France, UK,Belgium, Singapore, Middle Eastand the United States.
The large investment in R&D&Imade in recent years has resultedin such innovative products asthe first pure white "AbsoluteBlanc" or incorporating plant BIOresins in Nature line, the firsttechnological quartz countertopshave the natural stoneappearance thanks to the grain’sdepth effect.
THE SURFACES COMPANY 1COMPAC
What istechnological quartz?
The technological quartz is asurface composed of up to
95% natural quartz in whichpigments and resins are added
and by a process called"engineered stone" arecompacted by vacuum
vibrocompression obtaining amaterial with high resistance
and decorative qualities.
Quartz is one of the mostabundant minerals on the
Earth’s crust, and it comes ina very wide range of types of
qualities. The Mohs scale, which compares the hardnessof minerals depending on theircapacity to score the surface
of softer minerals, placesquartz in position number 7,under the hardest elements:
diamonds (10), corundum(sapphire) (9) , and topaz (8).
2
KEY ADVANTAGES
High hardness and resistance to abrasion andscratching.
Practically zero porosity, preventing the absorption ofwater or other liquid. Consequently the Compactechnological quartz does not need antibacterialchemicals, since the absence of pores prevents bacteriaacting as a natural bacteriostatic.
Resistant to fats, oils and acids from foods: lemon, tomato, wine, etc. Great flexural strength and impactresistance.
Easy to clean and maintain.
Uses and applications versatility: ideal for kitchen andbathroom countertops, floors, walls, and for surfacesthat have to withstand high traffic of people: shoppingcentres, airports, government buildings, etc.

Adding BIO resins duringthe production processesCOMPAC has created a newquartz product withsuperior physical, mechanical and decorativefeatures and morerespectful to theenvironment.
A good R + D + I department jobhas made COMPAC to achieve atechnologically advanced product, increasing its resistance toabrasion, UV and with lowerinternal stresses.
Incorporating BIO resins fromrenewable plant sources is a veryimportant technological advanceto the market and benefits theentire distribution channel, especially in the handling byfabricators because of its lowershrinkage and internal stresses, supports better the bending, increases its impact resistance,
cracks and cutting fissures, minimizing the slabs’ curvatureduring the storage and, due to itshardness, makes easier thepolishing and finishing work.
From renewable plant sources, Bioresins produce no volatileemissions to the atmosphere, resulting in a safer and healthierproduct for the whole society.
Applicationsand uses

Compac Quartz is highlyrecommended for householdsurfaces that come into contactwith fatty foods or cleaningproducts; Such as countertops, walls and floors in kitchens andbathrooms. Extraordinarytechnical properties such ashardness, strength, zero porosityand easy maintenance make thematerial suitable.
Due its low porosity it is perfect tobe used in places where water andmoisture are frequent: gyms, sports centres, spas, locker roomsand showers. Strength andversatility make it the ideal productfor all those places which have tosupport high traffic of people:cinemas, shopping centres, hospitals, airports, governmentbuildings etc. For such places easeof maintenance is important, andthe ability to combine largedecorative formats and differentthickness, reducing the number ofjoint surfaces.
COMPAC has created a widerange of colors and textures, ableto satisfy any decorative need bycombining materials withdifferent furniture andenvironments.
It highlights references with BIOresins, which colors and texturesthat enhance the decorativequalities of natural stones, with amineral streaks depth effect verydifficult to overcome.

Recommendations for care andmaintenance.
8
For periodical maintenance of COMPAC Technological Quartz materials, due to their exceptional physical and chemical characteristics, it is onlyneeded a regular cleaning with a neutral pH product soap/detergent, rinse with water and dry with a dry microfiber cloth or absorbent paper towel.
To eliminate any remains or residues, (Eg. oil or fat, wine, vinegar, lemon, soft drinks, coffee, etc.) from the COMPAC TECNOLOGICAL QUARTZsurface, just wipe with a damp cloth impregnate with neutral pH detergent, rinse with water and dry it.
As follows we will describe some simple treatment for the mostcommon problems:
• Fat stains: dilute a small amount of detergent in some waterand rub over the stain using a cloth. Next, rinse it off with water.
• Water lime marks: pour some vinegar (or any other dilutedweak acid such as hydrochloric cid) directly on the surface to betreated. Rinse it off with plenty of water.
• Silicone stains: Scrape off using a blade and use a little solventfor any remains left behind (ethanol).
BASIC TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION – MAINTENANCE TIPS
• Do not fit COMPAC Technological Quartz outside or in placeswhere UV ray lamps are fitted (in places subject to intense solarradiation or UV lamps).
• Do not place objects recently removed from heat on COMPACTechnological Quartz surfaces on a regular basis (frying pans,etc.).
• Do not use water repellents or sealers to enhance the shine.
• Do not use strippers, caustic soda, degreasers or products withpH in excess of 10 or chlorine based products. Do not use productsthat contain hydrofluoric acid or dichloromethane. If you usebleach or solvent, you must rinse it off using water and neverleave it long-time in contact with the surface.
• COMPAC Technological Quartz should not be polished, eitheron flooring or work surfaces.
• Aisle the countertop from external heat sources.
Removing stains from the dishwasher.
The common dishwashing detergents may forma shiny coat on the satin counter, causing stains. These residues can only be removed usingproducts with low ammonia concentration:apply them on the surface and leave them fora few minutes. Then rub it gently with a softbrush and rinse with plenty of water. Finallydry with a soft cloth or kitchen paper.
Removing marker, food colors and fruit stains.
Pen stains can be cleaned with a little alcohol. The food coloring and fruit disappear withdiluted bleach solution.
Removing dry spots caused by hard water.
Generally you can remove them with vinegardissolved in water and a soft cloth. For removingdry water spots, use warm water and vinegar, leaving a few minutes to soften the stain, thenrub gently with a cloth until it disappears, rinseit with water and dry.
NOT USE!
Besides those previously mentioned, highlyalkaline products or chlorine based, such asoven cleaner or solvents, are not suitable forcleaning COMPAC quartz countertops. Neithershould use corrosives, strippers, hydrofluoricacid, caustic soda, or products with a pH above10. Furniture waxes and oil soaps or degreasingare not indicated, as they can change thebrightness of the surface.
CLEANING COMPAC TECHNOLOGICAL QUARTZ POLISHED
Due to their unique physical and mechanical properties and their zero porosity, quartz countertops with polished finish (gloss), only needsimple cleaning. You can use any multisurfaces cleaning product with neutral pH, not more than 10, available at any supermarket. You canalso use specific products for cleaning the hob.
In all cases, for best results use a microfiber cloth good quality.
CLEANING THE COUNTERTOPS WITH OTHER FINISHES
These surfaces require more care and maintenance as they are much more sensitive to everyday life stains.
