idea and concept

• Synoptics is a conceptual artwork, that utilizes the lithographic printmaking process, to illuminate and reveal the 7 kabalistic principles of creation.

• The project has two parts: the printmaking process and the show of the resulting wall installation.

• Inseparably fusing content and form, Synoptics is unique in conceptually using the lithographic process itself as an expression of creation per se. Interest in Jewish Mysticism (Kabala) coincides with the desire to reconstruct and redefine figuration.

conceptual background

• The 7 kabalistic principles of creation are dealing with the essential duality of life: diametrical opposites, which can’t be reconciled, other than through the creation of a third.

• top on the right corresponds to‘chesed’, or expansion, top on the left to ‘gevurah’ or constriction

• top middle corresponds to ‘tifereth’, or splendor.

• The four images below correspond to the extensions, or realizations of the 3 concepts above.
