PROJECT GUIDE
Prof. Gayatri Abhyankar.1
Belongs to the family of man made or synthetic plastics.
Have excellent mechanical properties and provide an easy replacement of glass.
Wide range of application in engineering, medical and domestic fields
e.g. Aquariums, Sandals, in Furniture, Aircraft windows, Motor bike visors. [1]
INTRODUCTION
ACRYLIC
2
During the drilling process, heat is generated at tool work interface.
Heat depend upon the various factors such as speed, feed and tool geometry.
This heat changes the dimensions of the drilled hole.
It cause the trouble during assembly and poor surface finish. [1]
3
PROJECT AIM
Investigate the effect of drilling parameters on hole size expansion such as: cutting speed drill point angle sheet size drilling tool material. Make use of Taguchi method to achieve the minimum hole size expansion in drilling of acrylic sheet. 4

DRILLING ACRYLIC TAGUCHI
IrfanKhan,Dheeraj Luthra, MukeshVerma
Drilling Parameter to achieve minimum Hole Expansion by using Taguchi Approach
Taguchi method can successfully verify the optimum cutting parameters[1]
2 DRILLING ACRYLIC TAGUCHI
Irfan Khan, Mukesh Verma , S .S Mann.
( 2012)
Optimization of burr height in drilling of commercial Acrylic sheet using Taguchi method
higher cutting speeds and higher feed rate produces better results with higher tool angle (140 degree)[2].
3 DRILLINGTAGUCHI
C.C. Tsaoa,
H. Hochengb(2008)
force and surface roughness in drillingcomposite material using Taguchi analysis and neural network
the feed rate and the drilldiameter are recognized as the most significant factors affecting the thrust force, while the feed rate and spindle speed are seen to make the largest contribution to the surface roughness[3]

DRILLING TAGUCHI
Alper Uysal , MirigulAltan&Erhan Altan (June 2011)
Effects of cutting parameters on tool wear in drillingof polymer composite
response of the S/N ratios and ANOVA showedthat cutting speed was the least effective factor while feed was the most significant followed by the drill pointangle for minimum tool wear[4]6

ANALYZE RESULTS
CONFIRMATION RUNS7
During drilling of commercial acrylic sheet due to heat generated at tool work interface drilled hole get expanded.
This causes trouble during assembly & poor surface finish.

DETERMINATION OF EXPERIMENTAL OBJECTIVES
1. MORE THE BETTER 2. AVERAGE IS BEST 3. LESS THE BETTER
As our aim is to minimize hole expansion LESS THE BETTER objective is chosen
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
11
Drilling is to be done on RADIAL DRILLING MACHINE
as shown in Fig.
Analysis approaches like ANOVA is to be used for analysis using TAGUCHI METHOD
EXPERIMENTATION
12
A - SPEED
B - TOOL ANGLE
C - TOOL MATERIAL
D -ACRYLIC SHEET SIZE
For analysis Taguchi L 18 orthogonal array is chosen
ANALYSIS
13
The level of the best cutting parameters on the Hole Expansion is to be determine.
Taguchi method can successfully verify the optimum drilling parameters.
