Term 1 Week 8 Monday 16th March 2020
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I am so glad to be back at work and truly thank the so many who have put cards in my letter box and sent their wishes after the passing of my father. Special and sincere thanks to Mrs Payne, Mrs Doyle, Mrs Rodgers, Ms Tovara, and of course all of our staff and students for their great work in my absence. The Department of Education have today announced special measures to support the limiting of the COVID 19 virus. Our school has put in measures to protect our students including : extra supervised hand washing, every room has hand sanitiser, we will have no morning, lunch, after noon or Friday assembly gatherings, students are eating inside before being split into their playground smaller groups. Easter Hat Parade and Cross Country Carnival will also be cancelled for 2020. Please be assured, our school is taking every measure to protect our kids. Students who have not travelled or been in contact with anyone who has travelled should be in attendance at school if you are comfortable with these protocols. On that note, families who are deciding to self isolate are asked to be patient while waiting on work to be sent home. Staff still have a full class to manage and will organise extra work when they can. Any student who is at home may like to work on their Mathletics, Reading Eggs, times tables, reading aloud or simply utilise the many online apps and games for literacy / numeracy. As part of this protection strategy 'Sports and Initiatives events will be temporarily ceased until further notice'. The Hunter PSSA advises that the following trials/championships/knockouts will not proceed - 1. Hunter Primary Rugby League Opens & 11 years trials 2. Hunter Primary AFL trials 3. Hunter Secondary Rugby League 18 years & 15 years trials 4. Hunter Secondary Squash trials 5. Hunter Secondary AFL trials 6. Hunter Secondary Touch Open Boys & Open Girls trials 7. Hunter Primary Hockey Boys & Girls trials 8. Hunter Football Boys trials\ 9. Hunter Primary Netball trials 10. Hunter Secondary Golf trials 11. Hunter Primary Football Girls trials All Zone/District, Hunter, NSWPSSA and NSWCHSSA activities will be 'temporarily ceased until further notice'. We anticipate that these suspension of activities will also include Star Struck and Hunter Dance at this stage. While we are so grateful for all of our volunteers who assist with home readers, etc. it is imperative for safety and security issues that if you need to bring along toddlers / pre-schoolers that they are fully supervised and also quiet so as not to disturb class lessons. Thanks for your assistance with this if you are a wonderful volunteer in our school. Expressions of Interest forms for Year 7 2021 are now due. ALL Year 6 students need to return their form, even if they are attending a non-government high school. Thank you to those families who have already returned their form. My First Day Kindergarten Photo payments or returned packs are due back to school now as the School
Photographer will be picking up all photos and payments this week. Once collected, any outstanding photos will be
followed up by the School Photographer.
In light of community health concerns, Shigan Martial Arts conducted by Tom Braidwood in the Coal Point Hall will
be suspending training from Monday 16 March for one month. The situation will be reassessed after this date.
Kind Regards,
Ms Kim Creswell Principal
