Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of the biggest holidays of the year.

Thanksgiving is a holiday to be with family and be thankful (быть благодарным).

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated by Pilgrims, the first people who came to America from Europe.

The Pilgrims were very hungry. Some Indians helped them find food and live through the winter. Then they celebrated together.

These are foods eaten on Thanksgiving:

Turkey and Gravy

Mashed Potatoes

Cranberry Sauce

Pumpkin Pie

On Thanksgiving, people have dinner with their family. Before eating, each person says “I am thankful for………”

In New York City, there is a parade on Thanksgiving. The parade includes music, famous people, large balloons and floats.

At the end of the parade, Santa Claus comes. Thanksgiving is the first day of the “Christmas Season” (Рождественский сезон).

American football is also important on Thanksgiving. After dinner, people watch football games on TV or play football with their friends and family.
