Dear Friends, Patrons and fellow Artists:
Welcome to the Anne McKee Artists Fund Fine Art Auction. We as a board have worked hard to bring you a fine selection of top-notch work, showcasing both established artists and emerging talent. This is the only venue in the Keys offering such a wide selection of art and artists in one place. We hope you will enjoy the art, the convivial atmosphere, the excitement of a live auction, and the satisfaction of helping us keep the arts vital in Key West. It is your participation that makes it all possible.
2014 marks over twenty years holding the auction and supporting the arts. In that time the Fund has awarded over $210,000 in project-specific grants, mostly of $1000 each. This is seed money that can make the difference between a great idea remaining simply that or taking flight into actuality. The money these grants provide is further leveraged by an organizational framework and a lively network of active support in the community. The program has been a springboard for the aspiring and inspired, and has provided the community with many artworks and performances that otherwise may not have come to fruition. We thank you for helping to make that happen.
This year we return to historic Fort East Martello for the preview week as well as the auction gala itself. Auctioneer Tom Luna, flanked by the inimitable Vannas, will lead the fray, introducing the work and spurring on the bidding while regaling us with local color. A sampling of past contributors to the auction includes artists represented in collections nationally and internationally: Jim Salem, Keith Bland, Sal Salinero, Andy Thurber, Anja Marais, Rick Worth, William Welch, Letty Nowak, Lynne Bentley-Kemp, Richard Weatherwax, Michael Palmer, Meghan Cappozi, Vera Vasek, Jon McIntosh, Deborah Goldman, and Leo Gullick (the latter three also recognized by the State of Florida as Cultural Consortium grant recipients).
In addition, this year we are also honoring Jon McIntosh with the Miriam B Good award in recognition of his extraordinary dedication to the Anne McKee Artist Fund. Jon now serves as an advisory board member and each year continues to give of his talent to the fund.
As always, 50% of the auction proceeds benefit the Fund which provides grant support to literary, visual and performing artists in the Keys, and 50% percent of the proceeds may be retained by the artist – testament to our community’s historic commitment to the Arts. A hand up, not a hand out.
Again, a warmest welcome to our annual Auction. Raise your paddles high, bid early and often, and take home something beautiful!

ANNE MCKEE ARTISTS FUND OF THE FLORIDA KEYS, INC. BOARD MEMBERS
Mrs. Anne McKee hails from Avondale, Newfoundland, Canada. She moved to Key West in 1971 looking for a “warm place.” In 1976, she married Ross McKee and together the two became beloved patrons in the community, of the arts, of education and numerous charitable organizations. When she met Ross, she was already President of the Friends of the Monroe County Library and a passionate supporter of the arts. From 1987-89 she was the director of the Florida State Cultural Action and Education Alliances. By 1993, Anne was named Key West’s Woman of The Year in the Arts.
When she first envisioned a fund to provide project-based financial assistance to individual Keys artists, Anne McKee never imagined how successful it would become. In the early 1990’s, she became aware of a special need – that of the individual artist; to assist them in their creative endeavors, and thus The Anne McKee Artists Fund was born. Each year the Fund presents a gala evening at Fort East Martello where up to 80 pieces of art are sold in a live auction. The participating artists realize 50% of the winning bid on their piece, the fund receives the other 50%.
On March 1st, Grant Applications are made available on the Fund’s web site www.McKeeFund.org and at several locations throughout the Middle and Lower Keys. The volunteer Board of Directors works diligently to review applications and distribute grants up to
$1000 to qualified individual artists to assist with projects in the field of fine art, performing art and literary art. To date, the Fund has awarded more than $210,000 in grants since 1994.
“When I started, I thought it would help people buy frames and materials,” said Anne McKee of the fund that offers such tangible and intangible benefits to the local creative community. “I never dreamed it would help people do so many big things.”
