SUNDAY 31ST JULY 2016
ELEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
God said to him, ‘You fool’. – Strong
language. Then, Paul, writing to the
Colossians, is trying to get through to
these new Christians, that they have
to make choices and get their
priorities right. ‘Set your minds on things
that are above, not on things that are on
earth’. Centuries earlier, the Psalmist
wrote ‘Some went astray in the wilderness
and in the desert: and found no path to an
inhabited city;’ ’Whoever is wise, let them
observe these things: and consider the loving-
kindness of the Lord.’ It is easy to stray
into foolish behaviour. It takes time,
patience and prayer not to be a fool,
but to know ‘Christ in God’.

Opening Hymn:
Come, let us with our Lord arise,
Our Lord, who made both earth and skies;
Who died to save the world he made,
And rose triumphant from the dead;
He rose, the prince of life and peace,
And stamped the day for ever his.
This is the day the Lord has made,
That all may see his love displayed,
May feel his resurrection’s power,
And rise again to fall no more,
In perfect righteousness renewed,
And filled with all the life of God.
Then let us render him his own,
With solemn prayer approach the throne,
With meekness hear the gospel word,
With thanks his dying love record;
Our joyful hearts and voices raise,
And fill his courts with songs of praise.

Gradual Hymn
My God, accept my heart this day,
And make it still your own,
That I from you no more may stray,
But follow you alone.
Before the cross of him who died
In penitence I fall;
Let every sin be crucified,
And Christ be Lord of all.
Anoint me with your heavenly grace,
And seal me for your own,
That I may see your glorious face,
And worship near your throne.
Let every thought and work and word
To you be ever given;
Then life shall be your service, Lord,
And death the gate of heaven.

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns July 31st 2016
Offertory Hymn
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness,
Bow down before him, his glory proclaim;
Gold of obedience and incense of lowliness
Bring, and adore him: the Lord is his name.
Low at his feel lay your burden of carefulness,
High on his heart he will bear it for you,
Comfort your sorrows, and answer your prayerfulness,
Guiding your steps in the way best for you.
Fear not to enter his courts in the slenderness
Of the poor wealth you would reckon to own:
Truth in its beauty and love in its tenderness,
These are the offerings to bring to his throne.
These, though we bring them in trembling and fearfulness,
He will accept for the name that is dear,
Mornings of joy give for evenings of tearfulness,
Trust for our trembling, and hope for our fear.
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness,
Bow down before him, his glory proclaim;
Gold of obedience and incense of lowliness
Bring, and adore him: the Lord is his name.

Final Hymn
Christ is the world’s true light,
Its captain of salvation,
The day-star clear and bright,
Desire of every nation;
New life, new hope awakes
For all who own his sway:
Freedom her bondage breaks,
And night is turned to day.
In Christ all races meet,
Their ancient feuds forgetting,
The whole round world complete,
From sunrise to its setting:
When Christ is throned as Lord
All shall forsake their fear,
To ploughshare beat the sword,
To pruning-hook the spear.
One Lord, in one great name
Unite us all who own you;
Cast out our pride and shame
That hinder to enthrone you;
The world has waited long,
Has travailed long in pain;
To heal its ancient wrong,
Come, Prince of Peace, and reign.

Our Cathedral ministry to those in need
Now winter is upon us we are assisting more local families in difficulty at this time. Our pantry shelves are low on listed items: Long-life milk, tinned or package soups (all varieties),
crackers (bread substitute), tinned tuna or salmon, tinned fruits, pasta and pasta sauces (all varieties), tinned vegetables (peas, carrots, corn) , tinned meals, and cereals. Please continue to support this very worthwhile ministry. We are making a difference to many in our community.
Great news! Our toddlers group has been accredited as an official Mainly Music group. This means we now can access the resources of the Mainly Music network.
It also means that we can now advertise under the well recognised and respected banner of Mainly Music. We will now commence outreach program to promote Mainly Music and encourage mums and little ones from our community to join our group. We will also be encouraging our families requesting baptism to join this ministry. Well done to Debbie McConnell and the team. Please continue to pray for and encourage our team and this ministry.
In conjunction with St.Saviour’s Cathedral
