“After the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out
two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was
about to go. He told them “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers
are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers
into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out...” (Luke 10:1-3)
STILL TODAY…WE ARE SENT OUT JUST LIKE THE 72
As baptized and confirmed Catholics, we are empowered with the Holy
Spirit and are sent out to make disciples of every nation, much like
Fr. Kevin, Silvio Garcia, Mike McConnell, and Andrea Truckley who are
currently in Chimbote, Peru this week. However, we don’t have to
actually go to another country to do this. We can simply start small in
our own families, neighborhoods, and work places. Be bold and
deliberate in professing your faith to others around you with both words
and actions:
Pray confidently with others for their needs.
Bring hope and joy to everyone you encounter.
Talk about your faith and how Jesus loves us.
Speak encouragement and blessings on others.
Control your own tongue and speak positively.
Be a good example of a Catholic Christian.
Jesus also gave each of us the same power to overcome evil in His
name as the original 72. Today, He is STILL calling for each of us to go
out into our own harvest fields as His workers. GO!
OPV FAMILY FESTIVAL (JULY 10—13)
Whew...It is hard to believe that our 1st Annual OPV Family Festival is
THIS WEEK after many months of planning and preparation by a
fabulous Festival Committee made up of members from each parish! It
has been a great opportunity to make many new friends as we come
together as leaders in a much larger parish community. The teamwork,
camaraderie, and new ideas have been refreshing as we work to forge
our new OPV identity. The vast harvest field of Oakmont, Plum, and
Verona will be coming to us this week to visit our family festival. What a
great opportunity to answer our call as we meet many new faces and
grow together as one parish community.
We are STILL in need of more workers for the harvest (festival). Please
consider signing up to volunteer on any of the nights in the available
slots for food, games, grounds, tickets, parking, or information booths.
Don’t forget about the set-up & clean-up needs either. Each volunteer
will get a free T-Shirt and will earn a $50 credit to their parish for each
night worked.
How about dedicating one night to work with your family and another
night to come and just enjoy the great food, entertainment, and fun! Or
better yet, how about working as many nights as you can? The OPV
Festival wants and needs you!
For coordination and tracking purposes, it is essential for ALL
volunteers to register, log-in, and select your areas of interest at the link
below:
https://opvcatholic.org/opv-family-festival-2019
It’s easy and ONLY takes a few minutes to register. You will then get a
reminder text on the days that you sign up for. You may also call any of
the parish offices and they will get you registered.
SOME FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
Grand Raffle with over $18,000 in prizes
 Carnival rides & interactive games
Great food & homemade dinners each night
 Nightly entertainment & DJ
 Huge basket auction
 Wine and beer
 KiddieLand for the little tots
Please come and help make our 1st OPV Festival a huge success, but
more importantly may it be a time for fellowship and for making new
friendships. Please join us as we come together as the Catholic
Parishes of Oakmont, Plum & Verona. Please pray for excellent
weather.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE FESTIVAL!!!

Into whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this household.'
If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him;
but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink
what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment.
Do not move about from one house to another.
Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before
you, cure the sick in it and say to them, 'The kingdom of God is at hand
for you.' Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you, go out
into the streets and say, 'The dust of your town that clings to our feet,
even that we shake off against you.' Yet know this: the kingdom of God
is at hand. I tell you,it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than
for that town."
The seventy-two returned rejoicing, and said, "Lord, even the demons
are subject to us because of your name."
Jesus said, "I have observed Satan fall like lightning from the sky.
Behold, I have given you the power to 'tread upon serpents' and
scorpions and upon the full force of the enemy and nothing will harm
you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to
you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven."
READING I IS 66:1014C
Thus says the LORD:
Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad because of her, all you who love
her; exult, exult with her, all you who were mourning over her!
Oh, that you may suck fully of the milk of her comfort, that you may
nurse with delight at her abundant breasts!
For thus says the LORD: Lo, I will spread prosperity over Jerusalem like
a river, and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing torrent.
As nurslings, you shall be carried in her arms, and fondled in her lap;
as a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you;
in Jerusalem you shall find your comfort.
When you see this, your heart shall rejoice and your bodies flourish like
the grass; the LORD's power shall be known to his servants.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 66:13, 45, 67, 16, 20
R. (1) Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
Shout joyfully to God, all the earth, sing praise to the glory of his name;
proclaim his glorious praise.
Say to God, "How tremendous are your deeds!"
R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
"Let all on earth worship and sing praise to you, sing praise to your
name!"
Come and see the works of God, his tremendous deeds among the
children of Adam.
R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
He has changed the sea into dry land; through the river they passed on
foot; therefore let us rejoice in him.
He rules by his might forever.
R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
Hear now, all you who fear God, while I declare what he has done for me.
Blessed be God who refused me not my prayer or his kindness!
R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
READING 2 GAL 6:1418
Brothers and sisters:
May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,
through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
For neither does circumcision mean anything, nor does uncircumcision,
but only a new creation.
Peace and mercy be to all who follow this rule and to the Israel of God.
From now on, let no one make troubles for me; for I bear the marks of
Jesus on my body.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and
sisters. Amen.
ALLELUIA COL 3:15A, 16A
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Let the peace of Christ control your hearts;
let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
GOSPEL LK 10:1-12, 17-20
At that time the Lord appointed seventy-two others whom he sent ahead
of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit.
He said to them, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.
Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.
Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the
way.
SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
GRATUIDAD Y EDUCACIÓN EN LA FE (Segunda parte).

OPV CATHOLIC FINANCIAL REPORT
NEW COMMUNION PATTERNS,
LOW GLUTEN HOSTS & LECTOR/EMOHC GUIDELINES
Please note that starting July 1, 2019 some of our churches will have slightly
different patterns for Holy Communion, namely, STI & OLOJ. Multiple Communion
stations that served a single line of communicants have been eliminated and placed
differently.
We welcome any Catholic who is gluten intolerant to receive special hosts at
Mass. Anyone wanting to receive a low gluten host (very low gluten) is welcome to
learn how to receive in each church by contacting the priest or sacristan. He/she
would simply find their hosts in the sacristy before Mass in the mini-refrigerator and place in a pyx and set
on the tray or the altar so that they are consecrated by the priest during Mass. The priest or another
minister who stands where the priest usually stands will then distribute them when coming forward for Holy
Communion.
All lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion have been updated on guidelines so that there is
a similar expectation in each of our five parishes. This will make it easier for them to serve in different
parishes in our grouping either as substitutes when needed or to transfer occasionally because they prefer
a Mass time that is no longer at their home church.
Thanks to all those who provided constructive
feedback on the Mass time proposals. The third
option was presented last week as:
Sat Sun
STI 4p 11a (with Religious Education
classes between 9:30-11:00)
JAN 11a
SJB 4p 9a, 11:30a, 6p
(with Religious Education
classes 10:00a)
SJV 5:30p 8:30a
OLOJ 6p 8a, 10a
Parishioners were invited to provide feedback
on this third option. About 35 parishioners sub-
mitted feedback. Here is a summary:
1. Majority of the responses were pleased
with the new option 3.
2. Some were disappointed that the earliest
Mass in our grouping is getting even later at 8a
at OLOJ now.
3. Some were disappointed that the latest
Mass in our grouping is no longer Noon, but
11:30a at SJB now.
St. Januarius parishioner feedback was mixed:
some liked it, some didn’t. One person noted
that those wanting to have children in Sunday
morning CCD could attend the program at STI
and get to SJAN for Mass still.
At this point, we have received enough
feedback and discussion. Hopefully everyone
has become very aware that this is a difficult
process taking into consideration people’s
preferences, clergy ability, size of buildings and
RE programs. All feedback has been read by
multiple parish council members. The parish
councils will be in communication with the
clergy and leadership team and consider the
latest feedback and submit a request to the
Regional Vicar to approve a new schedule
likely beginning August 17 & 18, 2019. As soon
as the schedule is finalized, submitted and
approved, it will be communicated at Masses
and in the bulletin.

In Our Grouping and Around the Diocese...
PARISH OFFICE NEWS – NEW OFFICE HOURS
On July 1, 2019, there will be several office changes as we shift to a
staff that covers all five parishes.
Our Lady of Joy will be the main office. Over the next few weeks,
all phone calls to any of our parish offices will be directed there and we
will have one published number for our grouping: 412-793-4511.
St. John the Baptist office will also be open and that office will
address bulletin and funeral plans for the grouping.
For now, St. Joseph office will also be open.
St. Januarius office is only used by the Communications and
Technology Manager, Young Adult Minister, and occasional
meetings and is not open for parish business. The Church, hall
and pavilion remain open for Mass, meetings, or rentals.
St. Irenaeus office currently is only used for the Faith Formation
Program and is not open for parish business. But we may have
some parish business functionality at a later date. The Preschool
will open in August.
All parishioners from any parish are welcome to any parish
office. All three offices will be open the same weekday hours:
Monday – Thursday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. to Noon
Sunday morning SJB ONLY (Times to be determined
when Mass schedules finalized)
Mass Intentions
Mass Intentions can be scheduled at any parish office, but will all be
coordinated by St. Joseph Parish Office. The recommended stipend
donation is still $10. Therefore all $10 donations/stipends will be sent to
St. Joseph and checks must be made payable to St. Joseph
Parish. Note that this is a separate checking account that has Mass
stipends ONLY and all parishes will now be using this one
account. When Masses are offered, the stipend will be issued to the
appropriate priest celebrating the Mass.
Transition & Mistakes
These office and staff changes are significant. Thanks to all
parishioners for their understanding, patience and forgiveness-
in-advance for anything that might get missed or confused in the
changes. Soon, we will be better prepared to serve our entire grouping
together.
Questions or for additional information, contact Dave Hall,
Business Manager at business@opvcatholic.org .
A LETTER FROM THE BISHOP:
July 1, 2019
All the diocesan priests received a letter from Bishop David Zubik regarding The Church Healing Commission
appointment in the Diocese. This information can be found in this weekend’s Pittsburgh Catholic and also on
the Diocesan website https://diopitt.org/. In the coming months they will continue to fulfill the promises
outlined in The Church Healing and the Commission will begin its important work of monitoring the progress
of our action plan.
Bishop Zubic also asks us to celebrate with joy the ordination of four new priests last Saturday.
They are a witness to hope of God’s grace continually at work in our local Church!
