Dale Preston, David Stahler
Our Canada Mission Team completed a patio at the
Impact Mission House in Sherbrooke. This house is
home for summer missionaries and year round
missionaries for Church 21 and Bishop University.
Painted on the Encounter Ministry Building which is a
meeting place for youth ministries at Bishop University.
Worked with Church 180 in Quebec City helping Senior
Adults, the handicapped, and those in need move
when annual rent and lease contracts come due at the end
of June. Robert and Sharon Pinkston were there to help
coordinate the moving.
Thankfully we completed all the moves safely.
Handed out over 4,000 Church 180 water bottles at
the annual Canadian Days National Holiday
Festival.
Our team presented Sharon Pinkston, our moving
days coordinator, with an Arkansas hoodie and
some Cavender’s Greek Seasoning.
We appreciate all the prayers you gave us while on this trip.
It is always a blessing to be On Mission.

Since there’s a lot of talk
lately about civility… I thought I’d put in my two
cents worth on the topic. By
the way, think about that “two
cents worth” phrase. When it came into being two
pennies had actual value. When I was the kid, the
little mom-and-pop store near our house had cookie
bins. You could get one for THREE CENTS!! To-
day, however, there is talk of doing away with the
penny. I say all that to let you know the real value
of my thoughts. So, with miniscule appraisal of
profit and with maximum cranial effort, I forge on.
There will always be cantankerous peo-
ple…who are just…um…carriers of unpleasant-
ness. (I tried to be kind.) These people are not look-
ing to make progress, see the greater good, build
relationships, or do good. They are just spoiling for
a fight. They don’t see a middle ground. Shucks,
they don’t even acknowledge a different viewpoint.
I didn’t say agree with one…just acknowledge one.
Oh, wait! Let me give you an example.
ELECTED OFFICIALS – WASHINGTON, D.C.
I can fix this, but I’ll need your help. If you
are a Believer, we can model civility. First, let’s
understand what it is. Oxford dictionary defines it
as “formal politeness in behavior or speech.” The
Bible puts it another way. Three- year-olds have
been quoting it since memory verses became a
thing. “Be ye kind one to another.” (It’s Ephesians
4:32 if you’re keeping a box score.)
Let me break this down for you.... “BE” – It’s who you are. No doubt. Your “state of
being” includes kindness and civility.
“YE” – This has just messed up some of you. It’s
how the King James version says “y’all” – which is
how we southerners say “you.” It’s an individual
responsibility that cannot be shirked. The duty of
kindness is not an optional thing. Read the verse.
It’s a command – not a polite request.
“KIND” – Do we really have to define it?? Respect-
ing other people as valued by God is a great place to
start. Just “do unto others” in a way that reflects
God’s heart. You may not agree with someone’s
politics, lifestyle, or choices but you can still treat
that someone kindly.
Remember those people…I called cantanker-
ous? Remember how I said I was “trying to be
kind”? Kindness and civility may require a lot from
us. People love to push other people’s buttons.
Therefore, we must be ready (prepared), willing
(submitted to God), and able (empowered by the
Holy Spirit). It’s work. The good news is that we
can become a kind person. One of the Spirit’s fruit
in us is gentleness. Another: self-control. So, we got
this!
But remember this…if your tweets or posts
don’t reflect kindness, compassion, or righteousness
you may want to re-evaluate your social footprint.
You can have opinions. (Nice of me to give you
that.) Share them in a way that honors God and not
you. You aren’t “THAT GUY” who is throwing
those word-grenades are you? Are you looking to
throw down? Hey, Believer! Just remember what
my dear granddaddy used to say: “If somebody’s
looking for a fight…he may be cruisin’ for a
bruisin’.” (He also said “itchin’ for a switchin’” but
that’s just overkill.) God disciplines His kids.
Your “Kindly” pastor,
Rob

What’s happening in FBCH Student Ministry…?
July was another great month of student ministry.
We started the month off with a movie night watching “I Can Only Imagine.” Then on July 11th we
had a group of 16 participate in a service project with the Hope Cottages renovation (see picture
below). Our big July event was the annual St. Louis mission project week. Our mission team of 29
students and adults were able to minister to a low income community and share the gospel. During
the week our students also were encouraged and challenged by large corporate worship services with
other youth groups. July 25th we had a blast with the pool party at the McCuistion’s house.
On August 1st we will have
our final summer activity
trip. The details of the trip have not
been finalized but be looking for them
soon! There will not be any activities on
August 8 or 15.
The normal Wednesday night
schedule will resume on
August 22nd
.
The weekend of August 17-18
we are planning a Back 2
School event!!!
FROM YOUTH SUMMER INTERN>>>LUKE STOCKTON
Since I first saw the opportunity through an email at Southwest Baptist University, where I
attend school, to come and be an intern at First Baptist Church Harrison; I was excited. I had done
mission work with this group in past St. Louis mission trips and am close friends with Ryan. I had
prayed long for God to show me what he wanted me to do this summer. If that was to go back home
and work with my home church or to go on a long-term mission trip. I prayed through it, and I just
felt God keep telling me that this is where he wanted me this summer. I was excited to be able to in-
vest in kids that I have already seen and known for a while. It was a great opportunity for me this
summer.
Seeing how a church staff operates, as well as seeing what a church should do towards
missions will always impact and be with me. I saw the love that this church has to reach people in
Canada, Suriname, and especially in Utah. Being on the mission trip to Utah, seeing the church plant
there, and the love that they have for the community is inspiring to see. This church helps in the
growth of that church which is so impactful to me. There are places around the world that need
Christ, but this church also understands that there are places in the U.S. that still need Jesus too.
This church has taught me so much this summer.
I want to thank the church and the staff of First Baptist Church Harrison for the opportunity
to spend the summer with ya’ll (picked up that this summer too). This internship has really settled
my calling to the ministry. I’m glad this is what God has called me to in this life and this place will
always have a place in my heart from this summer.

Thank you for sharing your
children with us this Summer
at Adventure Club/Slam
Our enrollment was 96 children.
Through parables in the Bible of the lost coin, the lost
sheep, and the prodigal son we learned that Jesus
rescues us in any situation and that He cares for us.
Through the Bible story of Mary & Martha we learned how
Jesus holds us close and to be still and know that He is God.
Jesus is our salvation and gives us eternal life.
We made new friends,
sang new songs, played
games, had many
adventures, learned many
truths from the Bible.
What a good Summer
of FUN!
