A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
This weekend we are including the voter
guidelines for Catholics in the upcoming
election (see Page 10). It is not our position
to tell people who to vote for but to educate
you on issues by which to assess the candi-
dates. I will let that speak for itself.
There is an issue I would like to address.
You might notice a campaign sign on the
corner of Bull Valley and Crystal Lake
Roads. I have been very assertive on not
having political signs on our property since
it is not appropriate as a church to endorse
candidates of any kind. The sign that is
there is actually on Cunat's property, since
they own parcels within areas that might be
misconstrued as Holy Apostles property. I
called Mr. Cunat and told him that it puts us
in a difficult position. He told me that he
was sorry and would try not to put a campaign
sign there in the future, but that he had al-
ready given permission for this one to be
displayed.
My concern these days around here is
that politics has used the strategy of win-
ning by tearing the other candidate down
instead of telling us how this candidate
could help us be better. This strategy has
now trickled down into schools (including
and especially Catholic), business, church
and personal matters. This needs to stop.
The Good News of Jesus calls us to love one
another, confront people directly when they
wrong us and forgive peoples' actions.
How can we get better if we keep tearing
each other down?
Have a Blessed Week! Father Paul
We are very proud to announce that our
Tri-McHenry Catholic Parish (St. Mary, St.
Patrick and Holy Apostles) float in the
Fiesta
Days
Parade
won first
place!
Thank
you to all
who
worked
to design
and build
the float
and took part in the parade!

We Share Our Blessings Our Parish Tithe this week will be given to A Man in
Recovery, an organization whose mission is to save
the lives of opiate addicts and provide new alterna-
tives to keep addicts from relapsing.
Holy Apostles Mission Day—October 22 Many of us would love to reach out and be the face
of God by serving others in need but are unable to
take a mission trip to do so. Mission Day is an oppor-
tunity for everyone to serve people in our community
just for a day. Set aside Saturday,
October 22, to work on a team of
parish members to give a hand to
someone who needs assistance main-
taining their homes. Register online
on the home page of our website
thechurchofholyapostles.org.
Are you or do you know someone in
our community (need not be parish members) who
needs help at their home with cleaning, yard work/
landscaping, painting, or light electrical, plumbing or
construction repairs? Let us add your needs to our
“to do” list on Mission Day. (We cannot guarantee
that all requests for help will be met.)
Contact Joe Filpi at 815 385-0921 or jfilpi@the
churchofholyapostles.org with your requests for help.
Feeling God’s Call to Serve as a Deacon? The Diocese of Rockford will host Deacon Information
days on Saturday, October 15 and Saturday, Decem-
ber 3. The day will begin at 10 AM and end at 12:30
PM on both days and will take place at the Diocesan
Administration Building, 555 Colman Center Dr., Rock-
ford. These meetings are open to men between the
ages of 35 and 55 who may be interested in serving
the Church as a Permanent Deacon. Attendance at
ONE of the meetings is mandatory for application to
the Diocesan Permanent Diaconate Formation Pro-
gram. Married men must attend with their wives.
During these meetings an overview of the formation
program and the application process will be present-
ed. For more information call the Office of Permanent
Diaconate at 815-399-4300, ext. 375.
Take Part in Public Square Rosary Come take part in praying for our nation at a Public
Square Rosary Rally on Saturday,
October 15, at 12 noon at Veterans
Memorial Park, Pearl and Court
Streets, in McHenry. Our nation is in
great need of prayers—let’s turn to
God and pray the Rosary together.
Blessing of Animals Next Sunday Our pets are beloved members of our
families. Bring your favorite furry,
feathered or scaly pet to receive a
blessing next Sunday, October 2, at
11:15 AM (after the 10 AM Mass) outside
in the parking lot.
Your Gifts Provide Food for Needy Families A well-stocked pantry and refrigerator is something many
of us take for granted. But for others, there is rarely
enough food to last the week, no matter how carefully
each purchase and each meal is planned. For those strug-
gling to feed their families, the St. Vincent de Paul Society
is there to help. Vincentians provide bags of food and a
gift certificate to either Aldi's or Angelo's on each visit to a
neighbor in need. These food deliveries and compassion-
ate prayer, help lift families, feeding their spirits and their
stomachs in their time of need. Whoever has a bountiful
eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the
poor. Proverbs 22:9
Offer Your Intentions with Candles Four candles surround the Blessed Sacrament in the All
Saints Perpetual Adoration Chapel, each burning for 14
days. Request your own personal intentions for their dura-
tion by contacting the Parish Office at 815-385-5673. The
suggested donation is $15 per candle. From September
25 through October 8, with these candles, your prayers
have been requested by Debbie Byrne, Agaton Family,
Maria Tabaco and Diane Kieres.
Be a Eucharistic Minister Serving as a Eucharistic Minister is a rewarding and
gratifying way of sharing your time and talent with the
parish. Distributing the Precious Body and
Blood of our Lord to fellow parishioners is
humbling and fulfilling. Please prayerfully
consider joining this ministry by attending a
formation session on Wednesday, October 5,
7 to 8:30 PM in church. This formation ses-
sion is for all who are interested in becoming
new Eucharistic Ministers. Please contact Kathy Gulvas at
the Parish Office at 815-388-0513 or kgulvas@the
churchofholyapostles.org if you plan on attending.
When You Look Upon the Sacred Host... ...you look upon Jesus, the Son of God. Stop and take
some time each week to visit Jesus in the Divine Eucharist at
the All Saints Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Pray, listen, and
feel the peace that He gives us so lovingly. Break from your
busy life to acknowledge His comforting love.
Please pray about committing to these open times:
Sunday: 2 to 3 PM Friday: 12 to 1 PM
Please contact Mike Thielsen, 815-385-8562 or
mthielsen@live.com to volunteer as a permanent adorer.

Support Walk for Catholic Education The McHenry Catholic Order of Foresters is sponsoring
a walk to assist Montini Catholic School with painting
of portions of the schools and parents in paying the
tuition costs for a Catholic Education at Montini.
Several areas of the school are in need of fresh paint
and currently the funds to do so are not available for
this work. Also, tuition costs for a Catholic education
have risen and enrollment has decreased. Our goal is
to help lower income families afford a Catholic educa-
tion for their children.
The Walk is on Saturday, October 15, with registration
at 8 AM and the walk at 9 AM. It is a 3 mile walk be-
ginning at Shamrock Farm Park, 6402 Dartmoor Dr. ,
McHenry. A one mile walk is also available. All entrants
are asked to raise a minimum of $10 to be eligible for
the walk. All funds raised are due at registration with
checks payable to "COF". Registration and a pledge
form is available online at www.cof594.com. The walk
is open to adults and children who raise a minimum of
$10. Teams are also welcome with a minimum per
team of $50 for six or more walkers. 100% of the
funds raised will go directly to Montini for the two
needs listed above. The Catholic Order of Foresters'
home office will match $1 for $1 the first $1,000 we
raise and $.50 for each of the next $1,000 we raise.

muerte, implora la curación (cf Sal 6,3; Is 38). La enfer-
medad se convierte en camino de conversión
(cf Sal 38,5; 39,9.12) y el perdón de Dios inaugura la
curación (cf Sal 32,5; 107,20; Mc 2,5-12). Israel experi-
donará toda falta y curará toda enfermedad (cf Is 33,24).
