Taipei, the capital of Taiwan / the Republic of China is truly Asian, as the various religious

festivals and national functions that are celebrated throughout the nation portrays it to be

genuinely Asian.

The renowned culture of Taipei and its history is obviously shown off by its featured festivals

and worships, that have schedules all through the year. Taiwan has no month that ends without a

festival, and each of its festivals are remarked to be celebrated in its own grandeur. The Dragon

Boat Festival will take place in the major cities of Taiwan and China on various dates, where

the Taiwanese capital has enclosed the dates for this splendid Dragon Boat festival on 8th of

June which will proceed till 12th of the same month. Along with the festival there will be

competitions conducted and prizes are given to the best performing team.

To commence with, the first level of boat race starts on June 8, where one can see participants

from various Asian countries, European nations and Australian continent. From the various

participating teams, few best teams are shortlisted to enter the final level of competition which

will be held on June 12, 2013. Each long tailed dragon boat will carry more than 200

participants, where some are indeed larger than that. You can see many such boats painted in

different tints and will be set ready for competition.

Each festival has its own history! The fifth lunar month of the year is considered as the dragon

festival month, and the dragon boat festival is celebrated on the fifth day of this month, every

year. This fiesta is celebrated as a remembrance of the famous and first Chinese poet Qu Yuan.

History says that he tied a stone with him and jumped into the river when he was 61. When he

got submerged in the river people rushed to save him, but unfortunately they could neither save

him nor find his body.

This festival is actually celebrated to honor his sacrifice and to save him from the fishes in the

river. Participants throw zongzi (a special type of rice dumpling enveloped by bamboo leaves)

into the river hoping fishes would eat it leaving the poet. This is a special offer for your spring
