Carryoutallworkwithconsiderationforresidents,workers,pedestrians,visitors,neighbours,businessesandroadusers,atalltimesandwitheveryefforttominimisedisturbance.Payspecialattentiontotheneedsofthosewhohavedifficultieswithsight,hearingormobility,andthoseinwheelchairsorwithpramsandpushchairs.

Themaincontractorwillensurethatallemployees,agents,subcontractors,suppliers,driversandothersworkingonornearthesitecomplywiththisCodeofPractice.

Shoulditbecomeapparentthatsiteactivitiesarecausingdamagetothepublicasset,thecontractorcarryingouttheworkswillbeheldresponsibleforthefullcostofrepair.

Takeprideintheconditionandappearanceofthesiteandtheadjoininghighway.Temporarystructures,materialsandmachinesshouldbekepttidy.Removealllitterandrubbishpromptly.

Considerpeoplewithdisabilities

Whereitisnecessarytoprovideanalternativeorrestrictedpedestrianroute,thecontractormustmakeadequateprovisionforallpersonsincludingthosewithlimitedmobility.Temporarypedestrianwalkwaysmustincluderamps,handrails,goodlightingandasuitablesurface.Thefootwayshouldnotbereducedtolessthan1.5metreswidetoallowthefreepassageofbothpedestriansandwheelchairusers.Pedestrianroutesshouldbekeptfreefromclutterordebristhatcouldendangerthepublic,particularlypeoplewhoareblindorpartiallysightedorwhohavemobilitydifficulties.Whereverappropriate,especiallyalongfences,installground-leveltappingboardsforblindandpartiallysightedpeople.
