For just a minute, dare to consider how perfectly luxurious
it would be to have your very own country club - alt for
yourself. Well that's just the concept behind the fabulous
'Golf Home," recently constructed within WCI's Tibur6n
community at Serafina.

Dubbed the'Golf Home" because its
unique design incorporates practically
every amenilz a true golf enthusiast could
imagine, the residencb was originally the
brain child of GolfMagazine. According
to Paul Erhardt, project manager for
WCI's Tiburon Community, the national
magazine approached WCI with the
idea, in part because ofthe prestigious
course at Tibur6n, designed by golf
legend Greg Norman. "The magazine
vzanted to work with a world-class
builder on this project and they wanted
it to be situated on an incomparable
course. WCI's Tibur6n offered both of
these benefits," says Erhardt.
Erhardt added that in order to come
up with the final design for this highly
specialized residence, the builder
consulted a GolfMagazine reader profile
rather than a typical customer profile-
A few of the residence's most
unusual extras include a remarkable
golf simulator screen which gives the
user the sensation of playing r8-holes
at some of the world's most famous
courses, including Pebble Beach and
St. Andrews. The simulator also com-
putes the player's trajectory and force
for both fun and training purposes.

There is also an extensive home theatre
system with monitors throughout the
house for viewing televised sports
events on TV
Other unique pluses include a poker
table in the kitchen (which doubles as
a kitchen table when there's no game
going on), a built-in humidor, an outdoor
billiard table and several large trophy
cases filled with Greg Norman clubs
and other memorabilia.
Aware that the specialized combi-
nation of arnenities could give the
home too masculine a feel, interior
designers JoAnna Payne and Glen
Midnet of Design Group West selected
soft elements to finish the space.
'TV'e used mainly light coiors to coun-
teract the masculine themeq" says Payne.
"We also kept furniture small in scale
and employed billowing silk drapes in
many of the rooms," Midnet concurs,
adding that the women who visited the
home were as excited about the design as
the men. "The velvet upholstered sleigh-
bed in the master bedroom, paired with
Ralph Lauren window-treatments, lend
a traditional look that is neither too
masculine nor too feminine. I think,
overall, the look strikes a nice balance."

In the end, the project was an
enormous success. Construction of the
residence was completed in September
and it was open for visitor tours
through December. Visitors were
charged a fee of $5.oo. Total proceeds
were matched by WCI and donated to
the Liberty Youth Ranch for children.
"It was a situation that worked out well
for everyone involved," says Erhardt,
who adds that the house sold less than
two weeks after the tour closed.
The home's new owners are happy,
too. In fact, Eric and Marcie Kaufman
couldn't be more pleased with their
luxurious new residence. It was Marcie
who saw the house first. She fell in
love at first sight and Eric was quick
to agree. Eric describes the home as
"fancy with a masculine atmosphere,"
which seems to please them both. "The
floor plan was very well thought out
for entertaining and for everyday liv-
ing," he says. Ironically, neither ofthe
Kaufman's are big golffans, but both
of them are crazy about country club
luxury. After all, who wouldn't be? n
