“Fight the good fight of faith…”

I Timothy 6:12

I. We must fight against Temptations

Temptation = enticement, lure

James 1:2-5

fall into various trials

produces patience

“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,” 1 Pet.1:6

1 Cor. 9:27 - keep the body in subjection

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Cor. 10:13Exit

James 1:14 “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.”

II. We must fight Worldliness

Romans 12:1,2

be not conformed to this world

be ye transformed

Metamorphosis

1John 2:15 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Luke 9:62

III. We must fight against Worry and Discouragement

Must overcome Worry

Matt. 6:25-35

Lack of trust in God

Seek first Kingdom of God

Overcome Discouragement

“Be strong and of good courage” Joshua 1:6

Discouragement is the first step to defeat

1 John 4:4 “greater is He that is in you,”

IV. We must fight False Doctrine

2Pet. 2:1 “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

1John 4:1 “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

Jude 3 “Beloved, while I was giving all diligence to write unto you of our common salvation, I was constrained to write unto you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered unto the saints.”

V. The Good Fight of Faith

1John 5:4 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” v. 11
