Things ongoing…

As many of you already
know, at the direction of
Archbishop Vigneron we
are resuming public Masses at St. Margaret beginning
with a daily Mass on Friday, May 29, at 9 am in the
church and with Sunday Masses on Saturday, May 30,
at 4:00 pm and Sunday, May 31, at 8 am and 11 am.
Elsewhere in the Highlander (p. 6) there is a copy of
a letter that has been mailed out to all of our
parishioners outlining the process for coming to those
Masses. We ask your patience and understanding as
we try to implement the physical distancing required
at this time. Above all, we can still pray in our
homes to strengthen our faith in the time of this
crisis.

BIBLE STUDY
FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
The Scriptures are filled with stories of Jesus working
miracles and teaching us about everlasting life. It is
easy to see why Jesus caused such a stir in his time on
Earth and why we believe He is truly the Son of God.
May 24, 2020 Ascension of the Lord
Matthew 28:16-20
Today we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. In
today’s gospel we hear that the disciples went up the
mountain as Jesus had ordered them. Many of them
are still doubting Jesus. Jesus tells the disciples that
he is with them always. He will teach them so that
they can teach others.
1. Why do you think the disciples were still doubting
Jesus? How did Jesus reassure them?
Compare what the disciples are feeling to how you
are feeling during the shutdown. How and when
do you turn to Jesus?
Scripture Verse:
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations.”

Promised Presence, from "Once upon a Gospel" by William
Bausch. "and behold, I am with you always, until the end of
the age." [Matthew 28:20] "Jesus promised us that he not only
actively continues to intercede for us, but also through the gift
of his Pentecostal spirit, he lives in and among us... his
disciples, in every age. This powerful presence of Jesus and his
abiding spirit reveals the fundamental reason why the church
has endured throughout the centuries. It has survived the
external onslaughts of emperors, kings, heretics, wars, famine
and disease. It has survived its own internal corruption,
prejudices, sin, scandal and misjudgments. It will continue to
live because Jesus has promised... Behold, I am with you
always until the end of the age."

These words are taken from
Fr. William J. Bausch's
homily, "Promised Presence"
for this Ascension Sunday. It
relieves doubts we are
experiencing with this
disruption of our life in the
church today, The Church is
under siege today by the
coronavirus. Many voices are
telling us what we should do,
but Jesus is still with us
today and the Holy Spirit
will guide the Church. Life is
precious... All life... The life
of the poor and the aged
must not be sacrificed for the
life of big business, large
corporations or the economy.

Being Christian means accepting the Gospel and entering into a
personal relationship with Jesus and following him. Faith is
lived in community and all people are part of the body of
Christ. There are no national or ethnic boundaries, We are all
God's people! "May the eyes of our hearts be enlightened, that
we may know what is the hope that belongs to his
call." [Ephesians 1:1723] This hope does not disappoint, for
the love of God has been poured out into our hearts.

The Ascension reminds us that this hope will sustain us in our
mission, now, and until the end of the ages. The proclamation
of the Gospel starts with the insignificant and despised of the
land...the poor, the homeless, the sick and unemployed. The
Spirit gives us the courage to continue to live out the Gospel
with the conviction that the Lord will always be with us. STAY
HOME! STAY SAFE! May God continue to bless us NOW and
in the days to come.

Peace & Joy,
Deacon Ron & Nancy

As you probably know we have received guidelines
and directives from Archbishop Vigneron regarding
the resuming of public Masses for parishes in the
Archdiocese. In keeping with those directives
St. Margaret will reopen for Mass beginning with a
daily Mass on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 9:00 am. The
Mass will be in the church to facilitate safe distancing.
Please use the bell tower entrance if you choose to
come to that Mass. All who attend will be expected to
wear a face mask. Hand sanitizer will be available as
you enter. Chairs will be arranged to enable safe
distancing. We will continue with daily Mass from
Monday through Friday of each week beginning
June 1, at 9:00 am in the church.

We will resume Sunday Masses on Saturday, May 30,
2020, at 4 pm. Sunday Masses will be at 8 am and
11 am. The change in Sunday Mass times will facilitate
sanitizing the church before and after the Masses.
Again, please wear a face mask before you enter the
church and for the entire duration of each Mass. We
will LiveStream the 11:00 am Mass for those who
choose not to attend the Mass in person.

In order to arrange for those who will be attending each
Sunday Mass we ask you to call into our parish office
from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (586 2932240) beginning
Monday, May 25, to reserve your place for each Sunday
Mass. Someone from our staff will answer the phone
from that day through Friday, May 29, to receive your
request for May 30 and May 31. We will follow the same
procedure for the Sunday Masses to follow. Those who
live in the same household can sit together. If we know
the number of your family who plan to attend we can
make arrangements for your seats. You must call in to
make your reservation since we are limited to the
number of people we can accommodate for each Mass.
When you call in we will verify that you have a
reservation. Please enter the church through the bell
tower entrance.

There will be some changes to our celebration of Mass
and our sharing of Holy Communion. Again, we ask
that everyone who comes to the public Mass wear a face
mask. Hand sanitizers will be available as you enter.
Chairs will be arranged to meet the safe distancing
requirements. Directions for sharing Holy Communion
and the Communion Procession will be given at the
beginning of each Mass and before Communion. Ushers
and greeters will be on hand to guide you in this. At
the end of Mass everyone will be asked to be seated (no
leaving early!) and to be dismissed with safe distancing.
Please go directly to your vehicles after Mass. No
congregating inside or outside for the sake of safe
distancing.

We realize this way of coming, gathering and departing
is not easy. But if we are patient and kind it can work
for the good of everyone. Also know that Catholics are
dispensed from the Sunday obligation for Mass
attendance until September 6, 2020. Those over 65 and
those with health conditions should seriously consider
not attending Mass until the situation with the Covid19
has changed.

Let me also take this time to thank all those who have
been continuing your support of the church through
your contributions. Many of you have mailed them into
the church and they are deposited weekly. If you
choose to give online you could go to “give.aod.org” and
make your contribution in that way.

Please let us know if you have questions regarding these
directives at my email rdehondt@smsscs.org. I will try
to answer them in a timely fashion.

I look forward to gathering as a church in the near
future and to seeing and greeting everyone in the way
that we can at this time. Know that I and our whole
staff is praying for and with you and your family.

It has been some time since we have gathered in our
church for worship. Yet we continue to pray for each

a Spirit of prayer during this time and are looking to
Jesus for guidance and direction.

Sharing the Gospel
Jesus prays for you every minute of your life. God the
Father always listens to his Son. When you need help,
ask Jesus to help you. He will send the Holy Spirit to
show you how to solve your problem. The Holy Spirit
will keep you safe. He will make you strong. The Holy
Spirit will help you choose goodness, love, and
forgiveness. Then you will enjoy never-ending life with
God in heaven.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me choose goodness, love, and forgiveness.
Something to Draw
Draw Jesus praying for you. Draw yourself talking to
Jesus in prayer.
Mission for the Week
I will ask Jesus to send the Holy Spirit to help me every day.
