ELISAPETA NAMED MANAWATU’S TOP JUNIOR SWIMMER
Swimming Manawatu have named Ice Breaker
Aquatics swimmer Elisapeta Seumanu as Junior
Swimmer of the Year for the Manawatu region 2017-
2018. This is huge recognition for Peta for what was
truly an outstanding year in the pool featuring being
ranked 3rd in 200m Backstroke in New Zealand at
Februarys NZ Junior Festival (competing at the All
Stars meet in Wellington). At the All Stars meet she
achieved 6 gold and 2 silver medals. Peta broke the
200m Back IBA SC record in December 2017; the
100m Back IBA LC record in February 2018; and the
200m Back IBA LC record in March 2018.
RAGE AWARDS WINNERS
Ice Breaker Aquatics swimmers received three R.A.G.E (Regional Age Group
Excellence) Awards for 2017-2018. These Awards are for the best swimmer in their
age group over the past year in the Manawatu region. Congratulations go to Alex
Odom, who picked up the award for 12yo Male, Milan Glintmeyer for 10yo Female,
and Kase Glintmeyer for Under 8yo Male.
This achievement is recognition for the outstanding performances these three
swimmers have achieved over the past year. Alex, Milan and Kase continue to go
from strength to strength and we are looking forward to continuing to watch their
progress. Congratulations Alex, Milan and Kase, this is thoroughly deserved.
Well what a day in the pool!! It was a long wait to have our first carnival of the year and with a total of 87 swimmers made up from clubs as far away as Taranaki and Wellington. With this meet being on the first weekend of the school holidays, and with a number of Ice Breaker Aquatics swimmers away with the National Cycling Championships in Christchurch, Nippers Cup Water Polo in Wellington, or jet setting off to all parts of the world on holiday, the club was finely represented by 30 swimmers competing in 101 events. Many swimmers were competing in their first carnival. Our swimmers swam hard and from the 101 events, they managed 75 new PBs!
A fantastic effort by all Ice Breaker Aquatics swimmers who took part in this carnival: - Shanti - 3 PBs - Awhina - 2 PBs - Macy - 3 PBs - Hawaiki - 2 PBs - Josh - 3 PBs - Hayley Collins - 1 PB - ——-Samuel - 2 PBs - Olly - 1 PB - Hayley Cornwall - 4 PBs -Tom - 2 PBs - Tayla Cornwall - 2 PBs - Ashton - 2 PBs - Costa - 4 PBs - Priyanka - 4 PBs - Riza - 3 PBs - Madi - 2 PBs - Jacob - 2 PBs - Hannah - 4 PBs - Ryan - 4 PBs - Alex O - 3 PBs - Connor - 3 PBs - Nicole P - 2 PBs - Juliette - 1 PB - Madeline - 2 PBs - Peta - 3 PBs - Ella - 2 PBs - Alahna - 5 PBs Some of the PBs gained above absolutely smashed times - swimmers should feel incredibly proud!
A big thank you to Darryl and Emma for their coaching today - it was a massive job and we appreciate
you giving up your time.
The biggest winners were of course the winders of the tanks filled with candy. Even though we had
some pretty good guesses, Ice Breakers Swimmers couldn't quite win a tank for the club. The winning
tanks went to Eric Wong from Kiwi West for the big tank, Ian Tsui from PNASC for the middle tank and
the small tank was won by Cole Buchanan from the Breakers club. Congratulations goes to them.
To the parents who assisted with the running of the meet - on the computer, time keeping, runners,
marshalling and helping distribute drink/food to the officials - a massive THANK YOU to you all. Running
a meet is no easy task but definitely made easier by many people helping out .
ICE BREAKER AQUATICS FISHING FOR CANDY CARNIVAL
CHOCOLATE FISH NIGHT
The ever popular Chocolate Fish club night returns on Friday
26th October. This is a great opportunity to come along and have a
bit of fun and is also a great chance to invite a friend or two along for
the night.
Entries for this event will be via the Swim Nz website. Keep an eye
out for the flyer on the Facebook page.
BLUE RIBBON CARNIVAL
Time is catching up quickly and excitement is building for the inaugural running of
the Blue Ribbon. There is a lot of work being undertaken behind the scenes to
deliver what will be a premier event on the swimming calendar. We are grateful to
have some wonderful sponsors come on board. Inspire Net have naming rights for
this carnival, and this Blue Ribbon event certainly would not happen without them.
They are an awesome business and are wonderful people to have in our community.
We have also received some pretty cool spot prizes from DKSH (think Lindt Chocolates, Mentos, Chupa
Chups), Mortgage Link Manawatu, SBA Accounting, M&M’s, Cookie Time, Mega Mitre 10, More FM and
quite a few more in the pipeline so watch this space. In saying that, we can always do with more, so
please contact a committee member if you can assist or provide a link to a business that might be able to
help.
HEAD COACHS REPORT
The club has been well represented at recent carnivals. It was good to see so many Ice Breaker Aquatics
swimmers at our just completed Fishing for Candy Carnival. I was especially pleased to see so many of
our junior swimmers in attendance, and also swimmers that have recently joined the club or were swim-
ming in their first carnival. Congratulations to you all. This really gives us a good base to build on as we
move to the Blue Ribbon and we should have some really big numbers swimming from our club at this
meet. I will announce the swimmer of the meet when I have time to analyse all the times and PBs. Con-
sidering there were so many, this may be a big task. Also a big thanks to Emma for assisting at this
carnival.
We had five swimmers attend the PNASC carnival. There were some really good swims at this meet. I
named Nicole P the swimmer of the meet for an outstanding 100m Butterfly. I was also impressed with
the progress Kohae is making. I look forward to watching him at carnivals.
We had 16 swimmers attend the Wellington Short Course held over two weekends at the start of Sep-
tember. There were so many amazing performances that I could not possibly narrow it down to a single
swimmer of the meet. In fact I ended up with five swimmers of the meet. Elisapeta with 3 golds, Milan
with 5 golds, Cole who did a really good 100m Backstroke, Kohae for his 200m Breaststroke, which I was
very impressed by. He was also not far away from a bronze, considering he has only been to a handful of
meets this is very good, and Madi who was second in the 50m Freestyle and took 1.6 seconds off her
100m Butterfly time.. Awesome stuff everybody.
Well done to our swimmers who competed at the Aims Games in Tauranga. Cole swam really well and
won silver in the 50m Backstroke in 32:08. This is a new Ice Breaker Aquatics record. Well done Cole. He
also won bronze in the 100m Backstroke. Alex W swam well, achieving 3 PBs at this meet. Alex O also
swam well despite being ill—swimming 4 events and making 4 finals, with a PB also. Well done to you
all.
There is a busy calendar coming up for swimmers for the rest of the year. Dolphin carnival is next off the
rank over at Makino, followed by the ever popular Kiwi West Junior All Stars meet for 13 & under swim-
mers, and a Feilding Carnival just after that. These all lead into the Blue Ribbon and I am really looking
forward to the club turning out in numbers into what I hope to be a marque event on the calendar.
NEW MEMBERS
The Ice Breaker Aquatics family would like to welcome a number of new members to the club over the
past few months.
Welcome to the club Max & Olivia Calder-Kerr, Samuel and Hayley Collins, Milla Heal, Ryan Laurence,
Anne Moores, Ben Petch, and Brooke Smyth who have all joined recently. We look forward to seeing you
at the pool and at any various events that you may enter.

• Cole - 1 silver (50m Back), 1 bronze (100m Back) - 7 events, 4 Finals, 4 PBs
• Alex O - 4 events, 1PB (Alex qualified for 4 Finals but withdrew due to illness)
• Alex W - 5 events, 3 PBs

Tournament of Minds:
Congratulations to Abby, Telaina and Josh whose school teams took out the National titles of this event
in Wellington. Abby & Telaina are part of the Arts Team, Josh is part of the STEM team. Winning teams
had the option of competing in the International Finals in Darwin 12-13th October. Unfortunately, Abby
and Telaina have prior commitments with Manawatu Hockey, while Josh heads to this event on 11th Octo-
ber. Best of luck!
GARY HURRING TRAINING SESSIONS
Gary Hurring is back at PNBHS on Saturday 13th October & Saturday 17th
November. Both of these days will run two sessions, 9am—11am and
2pm—4pm. The indicative cost for these days are $40 per day (not bad at
$10 per hour for a coach of the level of Gary). Numbers are strictly limited so
please talk to your coach to register your interest.
Pencil in 7th—12th January as Gary will be back for the Summer Training
Camp. Places on this camp are strictly limited and sort after, and will be held
again at both the PNBHS pool and the outdoor pool at the Lido. Talk to your
coach or register your interest for this camp soon as places will fill fast.

FUNDING APPLICATION RECEIVED
The club has received a funding from Trillian Trust. We are super grateful for these funding agencies as quite simply most
sports clubs in New Zealand would not be able to exist without funding from agencies. The club is able to use these types of
funding to assist in the hire of lane space at the pool and therefore we are able to keep our subs at the level that they are.
