Ia Orana, Welcome…
Ask almost anyone to choose their ideal tropical island paradise and chances are Tahiti will be near the top of the list, if not number one. Verdant mountains rising up from turquoise coral fringed lagoons, French chic and a touch of luxury all contribute to making Tahiti irresistible. Of course, what we often simply call Tahiti is really five archipelagos known as French Polynesia. Officially still part of France, these islands have a distinctly Gallic flavour, perhaps best savoured through authentic and delectable French cuisine. Tahiti is the largest of the Society Islands, which also include the gorgeous islands of Moorea and Bora Bora. Each of these islands has a rugged volcanic heart abounding in forests and waterfalls. It is where the land meets the sea, however, which creates the real magic of Tahiti and her sister islands. Coral reefs, alive with marine life, protect shallow, impossibly blue lagoons – perfect places for swimming, watersports or simply admiring from an idyllic stretch of beach. French Polynesia is also synonymous with the dreamy concept of the overwater bungalow. Imagine being able to wake up in luxury and then go swimming straight from your own deck. You might even have breakfast delivered by canoe.
The Islands of Tahiti offer a unique and memorable experience - Enjoy!
Team visit to The Islands of Tahiti - January 2015
Front Cover - InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa
Travel TipsFrench Polynesia is also known as The Islands of Tahiti. There are 118 islands comprising French Polynesia, of which Tahiti is the main island and the location of the capital city of Papeete. Faa’a International Airport is located on the island of Tahiti approximately 5 kilometres west of Papeete. From Australia, Air Tahiti Nui is the international airline to The Islands of Tahiti. It offers flights from Australia to Papeete, via Auckland.International flights arrive on the island of Tahiti. Due to crossing the International Dateline, most flights from Australia arrive the day before they depart. Holiday packages in French Polynesia will usually require one night in Papeete before travelling to another island the following morning. Most passengers returning to Australia will require one night in Papeete prior to departure, as flights leave early in the morning.Air Tahiti is a private, domestic airline which links all five archipelagos. Travel between some islands, such as Tahiti to Moorea, can be made by high-speed catamaran. We recommend booking the same hotel chain throughout your visit, as ‘Island Combo’ specials are available. We also recommend booking transfers throughout your visit as many resorts are located on islets within the lagoon, only accessible by boat.
Passports & VisasAustralian passport holders do not currently require a visa for a stay as a tourist of up to three months but must hold a passport with six months validity beyond the date of departure from French Polynesia. If you are a non-Australian passport holder please check your visa requirements with the appropriate Embassy or Consular office. Please note you may also require a transit visa for New Zealand if you are flying via Auckland.
CurrencyThe local currency is the French Pacific Franc (XPF). There are plenty of ATMs and banks in Tahiti however access can be difficult in the outer islands. Major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, boutiques and other tourist establishments. We do recommend you carry some local currency for smaller purchases.Note: AUD$1 = 80 XPF approximately.
Pricing & SeasonalityFor all hotels on The Islands of Tahiti a compulsory local tax of approximately 150XPF per person per night must be paid directly to the hotels - for your guidance this amount has been included in the prices shown in this brochure. All prices in this brochure are shown in Australian dollars (AUD) and are per person, per night, twin share, based on low season travel and to are be used as a guide only. While seasons may vary for each resort, generally speaking, the following seasons apply: High Season: 1 June - 31 October & 20 December - 20 January Low Season: Rest of the yearSeasonal surcharges, supplements, compulsory meals and/or transfers may apply during high season or at particular properties.
ClimateThe Islands of Tahiti enjoy an even climate year-round with daytime temperatures around 28-30°C, dropping slightly in the evening. The weather is warmer and more humid from November through to May and drier and cooler from June until October. Year round, the sun rises between 5 and 6am and sets between 5.30 and 7pm. There is very little difference between high and low tide in Tahiti.
Tahiti is a true Honeymoon destination & many hotels offer free gifts to Honeymooners. Look for this red heart throughout the brochure to identify the resorts offering gifts. Honeymoon gifts range from a bottle of champagne on arrival, to sarongs and t-shirts, couples massages, canoe breakfasts and romantic dinners. Contact us for a full list of gifts on offer at the resorts. Not all Honeymoon gifts can be combined with resort specials so our Specialist Tahiti Consultants will guide you.
Many resorts throughout French Polynesia offer discounts depending on your length of stay. These range from free nights to free room upgrades, free meals, combined island tariff discounts and long stay tariff discounts.Look for this blue bonus logo throughout the brochure to identify the resorts where bonus deals are on offer. Contact us for the latest deals available at your preferred resorts.

A 50 minute flight from Tahiti you will find the stunning island of Bora Bora, undoubtedly the world’s most beautiful lagoon. It is known as the Romance Island and home of the famous overwater bungalows.
Your first glimpses of the amazing colours of the Bora Bora lagoon are on arrival at the Motu Mute airport which is located on a motu, a small sandy island. The majority of hotels and resorts are built on motus in the lagoon surrounding the main island, with Mount Otenamu peak as its centrepiece.
The array of blue colours in the lagoon is mesmerising and the waters are warm and clear.

Highlights
The Paul Gauguin was designed specifically to sail the shallow seas of French Polynesia, visiting small ports that larger ships can’t reach and effortlessly blending into the stunning natural beauty of the South Seas. She offers an extension of the informal, relaxing environment of the islands, coupled with five-star service, comfort, and luxury. Spacious suites and staterooms (more than 70% with private balconies), an on-board water sports marina, a choice of three open-seating dining venues, and an extensive spa are among her luxurious attributes. The atmosphere aboard radiates warmth, informality, and Polynesian flair. The troupe of Gauguines - local Tahitians who serve as cruise staff, entertainers, and storytellers - add the unique personality of Tahiti to every sailing.
