Why is this important? 1900: 4% of 18-year olds attended college 2004: 67% of 18-year olds go to college or post-

h.s. training Only 63% of students enrolled in a 4-yr. college

complete a bachelor’s degree within 6 years Up to 25% of students who leave college do so

during or immediately after the first-year 41% of freshmen report successfully meeting the

academic demands from high school to college 50% of college professors report being

“satisfied” by the academic quality of their students
