transcript
The City of Long Beach and surrounding areas are growing, and the transportation needs of residents are changing. Long Beach Transit (LBT) is developing the Systemwide Transit Analysis and Reassessment (STAR) Initiative to improve and grow transit in and around Long Beach over the next five to 10 years. This plan seeks to:
• survey.lbtstar.com – Take the interactive Design a Better Transit System survey to tell us how LBT should invest in new or improved services
• Provide feedback on existing services and potential improvements with the project team at community meetings
• #LBTSTAR – Let others know about the STAR Initiative by sharing LBTSTAR.com on social media
Evaluate existing transit services and determine how effectively they are serving the travel needs of Long Beach and neighboring communities.
Solicit input from you to determine how the transit system could better meet your needs.
Identify capital improvements to enhance customer experience.
Attract new transit customers.

DESIGN A BETTER TRANSIT SYSTEMHow would you improve Long Beach Transit?Fifteen potential improvements to Long Beach Transit are listed below.
Increase service frequency on weekdays Invest in existing routes so that buses come more frequently on weekdays.
Operate neighborhood circulator servicesIn neighborhoods not currently served by fixed route service, provide local circulation and connections to major routes. Circulators may use smaller vehicles to access destinations on streets not suitable for larger buses.
Increase service frequency on weekends Invest in existing routes so that buses come more frequently on weekends.
Create better connections to MetroRailLBT currently connects to Blue and Green Line stations with certain routes. Connecting more routes, more frequently would increase access and reduce wait times for passengers using these connections.Operate more routes on weekends
Currently, some routes do not operate on weekends. Operating service seven days per week expands mobility options for those traveling outside of traditional hours.
Operate express service to regional destinationsLimited-stop express routes would connect Long Beach Transit riders to destinations outside of the service area with a one-seat ride.Operate more routes in the evening
Operate routes that have demand for later evening service.
Improve speed and reliabilityInvest in capital improvements such as transit signal priority, transit-only lanes, and limited-stop services in order to make travel times on buses more competetive with automobile travel times.
Operate more routes in the early morningOperate routes that have demand for earlier morning service.
More shelters at bus stopsMore shade and shelter at bus stops improve conditions when waiting for the bus.
Improve Online InformationRedesign website to provide easy access to schedules and service alerts from a desktop or mobile device.
More benches at bus stops More benches at bus stops improve conditions when waiting for the bus.
Provide real-time information at bus stopsInstall real-time arrival information signs at more bus stops in order to allow riders to see when the next bus is coming.
Improve lighting at bus stopsIlluminated bus stops provide improved customer security and operational safety.
Create a smartphone appDevelop a user-friendly mobile app that provides LBT schedules and arrival information.
