(HUAC) held many hearings in which prominent Hollywood actors and directors were interrogated about their involvement with the Communist Party. Many were blacklisted from the movie and television industry because of their alleged involvement with the Communists. In much of the same way, Sterling’s characters “blacklist” one another in The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street.
