Junior Journalists
A feature article on school events from our Year 5 and 6 students
Your junior journalists
The P & C kindly donated the year 6 students, senior shirts to wear. The year 6 students would like to thank
the P & C for kindly gifting us with these awesome shirts. The senior shirts match our school colours which is
green and gold. The Year 6 students will most definitely wear these with pride. We wore the senior shirts
for our senior school group photo. WE LOOK AWSOME! We are enjoying wearing these shirts at our school.

News from the Principal’s Desk Greetings school community
Firstly, thanks for your patience and understanding with the impact on our communications created by our server having technical issues. Whilst we are not
quite there yet, we are working towards having a full solution to the challenges presented.
ANZAC Day
It was a lovely rainy day for the town ANZAC Day Ceremony this year. The rain did not keep people away and it was wonderful to march with the staff and students. A special mention to Lilly who read during the ceremony and represented our school community with pride. I was also extremely proud of our students who demonstrated respect for the ANZACs at our school ceremony. Sports Update The Callide Valley Small Schools Athletics Carnival was a wonderful community event at Goovigen State School. A big thanks to all of our families for making sure that the students were able to be part of this day. A special mention to Blake, Shakina, Awhena, Bridget and Amy who were selected to represent the Callide Valley Small Schools at the Callide Valley trials. A further congratulations to Blake and Awhena who will be representing the Callide Valley at the Port Curtis trials this coming Friday. Parent Teacher Interviews This is such an important part of our communications and which occurred on Monday 13th May. We always feel that we are better able to support students in their learning journey using the conversations that we have with families. I thank each family for their time in coming to meet with the teaching team. NAPLAN National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is now completed and the testing has been posted off to be processed. I thank families for making
sure that their children have been well rested and ready for the challenge of the testing process.
Biloela State High School Transition
Transition into secondary education is a very important process for all of our students. Year 6 students have had a visit from Mr Hall from Biloela State High
School which is an important part of that process. All families should be attending the information evening this Wednesday.
Callide Valley Show
Can I thank all families for their contributions to making this major fundraising event a success once again in 2019. A special mention to those of you who either
bought your children along for the duration of the Show or loaned one parent whilst the other looked after the kids. It is a massive amount of work but is certainly
worth the effort as the money we raise benefits all of our children and helps promote our school within our community.
Canberra Camp Update
Due to unforeseen circumstances the scheduled Camp Meeting has been shifted to 3 p.m. on Monday 10th June. The information is critical for you to be able to be
prepared with plenty of time. All families need to attend.
Digital Technology Workshops
Students in Years 3-6 will be joining students from our other Small Schools at Wowan State School for a Digital Technology workshop next Tuesday. Don’t forget
that it is an early start and the bus will be unable to wait for late arrivals. Students need to be here and ready to get onto the bus at 8 a.m. for an 8:15 departure.
Earn and Learn
Please don’t forget to collect and bring in the Woollies Earn and Learn stickers. This is a great initiative to support our students. In 2019 we are hoping to use our
Earn and Learn Stickers to get at least one (hopefully more) microscopes to support our students in their Science curriculum.
Chaplaincy Update
I am very pleased to share that we have secured additional funding for our Chaplaincy program for the remainder of this year. This will mean that we are able to
have Chappy Lyn all day on Mondays AND Fridays. Chaplaincy is such a wonderful support for all members of our school community and I am very excited to be
able to have more time.
This term, Chappy Lyn has worked with me to develop a Leadership Program for Year 5 & 6 students which will run on Friday afternoons after school from Week 6—
9. Further information will be sent home to these families this week.
Typing Tournament
The ability to touch type is becoming more important for the future education and working lives of our children. This week we have purchased the program Typing
Tournament to support our students to develop these skills. We will be working with the students to ensure they know how to access the program. Just like
Reading Eggs and Mathletics, students will be able to access this program from home. We will be
sending the details for students to log on at home in the coming weeks.
Skipping for Fitness
Over the remaining weeks of this term, all students will be working on developing their skill and
proficiency in skipping (with a rope) as part of our Health and Physical Education Program. Students
will all have set goals to work towards by the end of the term. I encourage families to support
students and perhaps become involved with a bit of skipping at home.
We will be having a P&C Meeting on Monday 3rd June—the agenda will be sent home next week.
Yours in learning
Linda
