The Move of Pediatric Palliative Care Program

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM
I. To increase healthcare provider’s skills and knowledge in pediatric palliative care for children, including children with cancer and non-malignant conditions II. To develop active pediatric palliative service at each participating hospital, e.g., Yangon Children Hospital (YCH) Pediatric Palliative care Service, 300-bedded Mandalay Children Hospital (MCH) Pediatric Palliative care Service & Yankin Children’s Hospital Pediatric Palliative Care Service. III. To nurture pediatric palliative care services in Myanmar with trained
staff to provide quality palliative and bereavement care for children and family throughout the disease trajectory.
IV. To improve awareness among people, caregivers and the HCPs about the Pediatric Palliative Care

Starting with 4 ACTIVE Centers • Yangon Children Hospital • Yankin Children Hospital • No.2 Military Hospital • Mandalay 300 bedded Children Hospital with Strong Networking Facilities Among Each Center

Excellent Networking system in 2MH but No MSW in 2MH
YCH -Involvement of INGOs and NGOs- Counseling
Nutrition program Play Therapy , Music Therapy
Travelling Allowance and Daily Allowances
MCH- Involvement of INGOs and NGO Nutrition Program
YKCH- Less Resources Problem than other hospital
Challenges Assumed
• Resources – • Materials : Space, Data collection tools, medications and Development of
commmon Guidelines and SOP in pediatric palliative care • Training : (Basic:- doc, nurse, MSW, nutritionist)
• Commitment and sustainability • Human Resource -(No full time Palliative care service providers in all centers)
retaining the trained persons and if unavoidable to shift to the PPC providing hospitals
• Implementation at every steps of the training: - depending of strengths and weakness of each center
• Institutional climate : acceptability from the administrative levels, peers, caregivers and families
• Awareness among the HCPs, Caregivers and patients and people
Public Awareness and Readiness Can Progress to • FUTURE PLANS HOSPITAL BASE TO COMMUNITY SERVICES
• HOSPICES • RESPICE CARE • ROLE OF NGOs and Volunteers • PPC Services in Institutions
