Halloween

Halloween is always celebrated on 31 October.

It is thought that the colors orange and black became Halloween colors because orange is associated with harvest (Halloween marks the end of the harvests) and black is associated with death.

The Black Cat

Black cats are known for giving good

luck, the history of this came from Britain due to their Pagan roots. However in Western history, black cats have often been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens, specifically being suspected of being the familiars of witches; in other cultures such as Asia they are also considered to be bad luck.

Food

Because the holiday comes in the wake of the annual apple harvest, candy apples caramel or taffy apples are a common Halloween treat made by rolling whole apples in a sticky sugar syrup, sometimes followed by rolling them in nuts.

Trick-or-treating

Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. Children go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick or treat?"

Jack O’ lantern

A jack-o'-lantern is typically a carved pumpkin.

In a jack-o'-lantern, typically the top is cut off, and the inside flesh then scooped out; an image, usually a monstrous face, is carved onto the outside surface, and the lid replaced
