It brings me great pleasure in welcoming you to the 2015 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball National Championships. The USCAA provides an opportunity for the best small colleges in the country to compete against like institutions for a National Championships. More so, we try to provide our members and student-athletes
unique experiences that they will remember for life. We have chosen the Laurel Highlands and Penn State Fayette for that reason. Here, you will experience outstanding basketball, an exceptional facility, and unmatched lodging with our Presenting Sponsor Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. We pray that this is a special week that you may reflect on forever.
Intercollegiate athletics are a complement to an outstanding education, helping to provide leisure and life skills while in college. In tournaments such as this, you often hear people say, “Only one team walks away happy.” Disappointment can and will surround the losing team. However, the game reminds us that whether we succeed or fail, there will be a new challenge around the next corner, one that we must be prepared for. Each experience along the way is only a brief moment to learn and reflect on those things that make us happy and make us successful, and those things that don’t.
To our participants, I say congratulations and best of luck. To our fans, thank you for being with us. Also, I would like to extend thanks to Penn State Fayette Chancellor Dr. William Patrick and the Penn State Fayette staff
for hosting the USCAA this week. Additionally, we extend special appreciation to our Presenting Sponsor Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, to our partners at the FayPenn Economic Development Council and the Chamber of Commerce, the Herald Standard, our
sponsors, and the residents of Fayette County. Each of these groups and individuals has worked tirelessly to make this a memorable event for all involved.

Welcome USCAA Athletes, Coaches, and Fans!
Welcome to the 2015 National Basketball Championships at the Penn State Fayette Campus in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. The campus and Uniontown are part of a 3,000 square mile scenic region called the Laurel Highlands. The Laurel Highlands, located approximately 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh is a four season destination which offers some of the country’s most spectacular mountains and landscapes, outstanding outdoor recreation venues, historic sites and attractions, family activities, and world-class resorts – such as your host hotel, the beautiful Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.
While the competition is the focus of your trip, we hope that you have some time to enjoy this very special resort which attracts visitors from across the country and around the world. For history buffs, the Historic National Road (US 40), the road you’ll travel to and from the tournament, is one of America’s most historic routes. A young 22-year old George Washington began his military career near the route in the Great Meadow at Fort Necessity in 1754.
For those who have an interest in or are studying architecture or engineering, you are within close proximity to one of the most famous homes of all time, Fallingwater. Designed by famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Fallingwater is a stunning mountain retreat with cantilevered terraces that are boldly suspended over a rushing waterfall. The 2015 season begins March 15th with tours daily – except Wednesdays.
You’ll find a great selection of good eats in the area – from small town eateries with big flavors and popular regional chains to nationally known restaurants. We think that you’ll find the locals warm and welcoming and we all wish you the best of luck at the tournament.
Sincerely,The Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau
welcome

In the historic city of Selma, AL, the tradition of overcoming adversity has been paved in the city streets
since the days of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. That’s no different for the women’s basketball team at Concordia College Alabama. The Lady Hornets have four USCAA National Championships since 2006 and are set to go after a fifth, but in a little different fashion. In previous tournaments, the Lady Hornets have been slotted no higher than a seventh seed in the tournament brackets, forcing them to play the top ranked teams in the first round. So far, that has not been a problem for the Lady Hornets, but this year the Lady hornets are at the top of the USCAA Coaches poll at hopes to receive the number one seed in the 2015 USCAA National Championships.
Even though the 2014 Women’s USCAA National Championship trophy went to Selma, AL a year ago, head coach Eric Jackson, Jr. is approaching this year’s tournament with the same mentality as last year. “I don’t look at it like we are defending anything.” Jackson said, “I feel like everyone in the tournament
is after the same 2015 Championship trophy. No one can take away what we accomplished last year. But the past is the past. That’s why we have seasons….everyone gets a clean slate.”
With six seniors and two All-Americans on the court this year, the Lady Hornets have the experience needed to make a push in the tournament. Perhaps the biggest asset for the defending champs is the revamped bench from a year ago. Jackson’s recruiting class includes 4 junior college transfers and have been producing at a very high level.
Going from two or three scorers last year, to having multiple offensive weapons on the floor at once was an adjustment for everyone involved. “We had to learn to sacrifice for each other and for the good of the team goal…which is to win,” Jackson said. “Some of our returners had to watch their personal stats decrease to see the wins increase. I think they handled that task flawlessly. Especially, since we were coming off of winning a national title.”
Off the court, the Lady Hornets strive for excellence as well. With a team GPA of a 3.08, they went from one person qualifying for the USCAA All-Academic Team to four in one season. “As a coaching staff we always stress the importance of balance,” Jackson explained. “You can’t give 100 percent to just one aspect of your life, but to all of them…academically, athletically, socially, spiritually.” As a reminder to always do our personal bests, we adopted the acronym C.H.A.M.P.S. which stands for Connecting Hoops and Academics to Mold Personal Success.
The top-ranked Lady Hornets look to repeat their championship run from a year ago with a well-defined sense of purpose. The lady Hornets are currently on a 21 game winning streak, which is the longest in school history in any sport.
The Lady Hornets are the only team in the 2015 USCAA Tournament poised to defend their National Title. Washington Adventist University, University of Cincinnati-Clermont, and Andrews University did not qualify for this year’s tournament.

S E A S O NGRAND1,000, grand, kilo, stack or k - no
matter how your phrase it, the number 1,000 is an important
number in the athletic world. That is especially true with Berea College Men’s Basketball. The Mountaineers are off to a respectable start with a 7-2 record and a ranking of 7th in the USCAA - Division I Coaches Poll. The biggest among those seven wins, was the 74-70 victory over #16 Union College (NAIA Preseason Poll) at the 2014 Rainmaker Hospitality Shootout presented by the Comfort Inn and Suites.
Arguably the program’s most historic win of the season came on December 2nd over Bryan College. That 74-61 win became the men’s basketball program’s 1,000 victory. Berea College began sponsoring men’s basketball
during the 1923-24 academic year. Those original Mountaineers went 12-1 and here coached by John Miller. Over the years, Berea has been led by 15 head coaches and won 20 or more games, seven times. They have gone winless once (1961-62) and their 24 wins in 1998-99 remains the program’s most productive season.
Senior, guard, Aaron Ponder also hit the 1,000 mark, scoring his 1,000 career point on December 13 at Indi-ana University – Kokomo. The Berea native and Madison Southern product becomes the 32nd member of the Mountaineer 1000-Point Club. Ponder has done more than score at Berea, his 19 assists this season gives him a career total of 312; good enough for 15th on that all-time list.
Senior, forward, Tevin Webster got his grand on Monday, January 5 in a victory over Johnson University. The Campbellsville native and Taylor County High School product becomes the 33rd member of the club. His 50 rebounds so far this season, gives him a career total of 716 and sitting in 9th position on the 500-Rebound Club. He could well move into the Top-5 on the list at his current rate of produc-tion.
Ponder and Webster become the third set of teammates to enter the 1,000-point club in the same season; most recently achieved by Kelly Day and Greg Laws during the 2000-2001 campaign. The 1,000-Point Club began in 1957, when Darrell Case became the first Mountaineer to reach the milestone.

Adding to his growing list of accolades over his outstanding four-year career, St. Joseph’s
College (Brooklyn) senior David Louison has been selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men’s Basketball First Team, the first Brooklyn Campus student-athlete to receive the honor.Louison was selected as an Academic All-District honoree two weeks ago, one of five student-athletes from Division III men’s basketball teams in New York state. As a first team Academic All-America selection, he is among the top five student-athletes across over 400 Division III men’s basketball schools nationally. To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.3 cumulative grade point average.“It’s pretty humbling,” remarked Louison—a criminal justice major with a 3.93 GPA—about receiving the accolade. “I’ve been speechless since I was first notified that I was selected for such a high honor. I’m extremely grateful and I’m proud to be in this position to have this under my belt as a student-athlete.”“Dave epitomizes what it means to be a St. Joseph’s College student-athlete and he truly deserves to receive this honor, the highest academic accolade in collegiate athletics,” commented Athletic Director Frank P. Carbone.Louison was recently named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and is a four-time All-HVIAC selection as well as a two-time United States Collegiate Athletic Association First Team All-American. The St. Edmund Prep product led the team this season
with 16.5 points per game and 11.3 rebounds and has recorded 19 double-doubles.
The Brooklyn native joined the exclusive 1,500-point, 1,000-rebound club this season racking up over his four-year career 1,679 points, 1,181 rebounds and 59 double-doubles, the active Division III leader in the last two categories.
“Dave’s statistics speak for themselves”, commented Head Coach Joseph Cocozello. “Whenever I’ve been interviewed in regards to Dave, I would very rarely talk about the basketball on the court, his game speaks for itself. More important is the pride he takes in his academics as a student-athlete. He is a model citizen and ambassador for the school. We are blessed and fortunate to have had him for the past four years.”Prior to Louison’s arrival, the team
had four straight losing seasons and now is working on their third straight winning season and on the verge of making their second USCAA National Championship appearance in three years.
Off the court, Louison has worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a student clerk since June 2012 gaining valuable exposure and experience working on high profile cases. Upon his graduation from SJC this spring, Louison plans to become a paralegal, attend law school and continue to pursue a career as a lawyer.
Joining Louison on the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® first team are John Coleman of Clarkson University, the Academic All-America of the Year, Benjamin Ritholtz of Yeshiva University, Travis Schomaeker of Defiance College and Gordon Lyons of SUNY-University.
